Engineering Technician
Job DutiesWill work directly hands-on in an electrical test lab, building and configuring MCC and switchgear test samples. Will implement UL and IEC compliance testing in high-current environments.Will strictly observe electrical safety and LOTO requirements while doing so. The role includes precise documentation of test setups and results, close collaboration with development and high‑current lab engineers, and maintaining a 5S‑driven, safe, and organized lab environment to support reliable test execution.Build and configure Motor Control Centers (MCCs) and switchgear test samples according to engineering drawings and specificationsAssemble electrical and mechanical components to support standardized and custom test configurationsPrepare test setups for high‑current, high‑power electrical testingConduct electrical tests following applicable standards, including:UL 845UL 891IEC 61439‑1IEC 61439‑2Complete common electrical tests such as:Short circuit testingArc flash testingTemperature rise testingDielectric (hi‑pot) testingSupport safe operation of equipment in high‑current laboratory environmentsDocument test procedures, setups, results, and observationsCapture test data, anomalies, and deviations in formal test recordsSupport traceability and compliance documentation requirementsFollow all electrical safety, LOTO, and laboratory safety proceduresMaintain a clean, organized, and audit‑ready workspaceApply 5S principles to lab organization and test areasSupport a culture of safety in high‑energy test environmentsWork with development engineers to support design verification activitiesPartner with high‑current lab engineers during complex or hazardous testingProvide hands‑on technical support during failure investigation and root cause analysisCommunicate test status, issues, and findingsQualificationsEducation: Technical school work (up to 1 year)Hands‑on experience with:Electrical and mechanical assemblyPower and control wiringTest instrumentation and lab equipmentAbility to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawingsMechanical aptitude and hands‑on troubleshooting skillsDemonstrated understanding of:Electrical safety practicesLockout/Tagout (LOTO) proceduresSafe work practices for high‑energy systemsFamiliarity with Six Sigma concepts and 5S principlesExperience testing MCCs, switchgear, or industrial power products preferred Familiarity with UL and IEC compliance testing desired BenefitsHealthcare Insurance: Synectics offers eligible employees and their dependents healthcare coverage through BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois.
