Job SummaryThe Maintenance Department provides construction, installation, relocation, repair, and preventative maintenance on machinery, equipment, and facilities to ensure optimum operating efficiency. The Instrument Electrician performs installation, maintenance, inspection, design, and troubleshooting of electrical and instrument equipment.Essential FunctionsCoordinate instrument electrician activities with overall plant operationsInstall conduit, switchgear, control devices, transformers, electrical feeders, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), human‑machine interface (HMI) devices, and process control equipmentUse a personal computer to diagnose and program PLCs and HMIs, as well as to test and calibrate control loopsPerform basic troubleshooting for electrical control, distribution, and motor protection and controlUse test equipment to diagnose low‑voltage systems (600 volts or less)Test and calibrate process controlsRepair pneumatic, mechanical, electrical, and electronic instrumentsLocate and repair faults on single‑phase and poly‑phase circuits; troubleshoot circuits containing electronic components, printed circuit boards, and PLC‑based controllersConnect all types of control circuits, motor circuits, and transformer connectionsPerform general instrumentation and electrical field maintenanceCreate as‑built drawings of completed projectsPerform minor welding for brackets and supports of I/E equipmentHealth, Safety & Environmental (HSE) FunctionsComplete work assignments in accordance with relevant HSE work instructions and job proceduresMaintain familiarity with HSE components of work instructions and job proceduresReport suggestions to improve HSE components to managementReport non‑conformities and non‑compliance with HSE components to managementMaintain awareness of actual or potential HSE impacts of activities and associated legal implicationsExercise authority to address HSE non‑conformities, including reporting to supervisionReview work practices for HSE issues and impactsAttend HSE awareness training sessionsProperly store materials that could impact the environment; dispose of aerosol cans and electrical waste in appropriate containers and areasOther FunctionsMaintain a clean, safe, and organized work areaMaintain records and reports as requiredJob RequirementsEducation & KnowledgeAbility to read, write, and perform basic mathPractical knowledge of AC/DC electrical and electronic theory, Ohm’s law, Kirchhoff’s laws, voltage dropUnderstanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC)Working knowledge of instrument loop operation and Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)Experience4+ years of qualified experience as an Instrument ElectricianSkillsProficient in the use of test and calibration equipment and personal computersAbility to read and apply schematic drawings, wiring diagrams, loop drawings, process flow drawings, and service manualsAbility to create detailed as‑built drawings of completed projectsEquipment UsedPersonal computersTest equipment (megger, multimeters, voltmeters, ammeters, recording devices)Test and calibration equipmentOther electrical/instrumentation tools as required
