Embedded Cyber Software Engineer - Ground Combat VehiclesLocation: Sterling HeightsSchedule: Full-Time | OnsiteTravel: Minimal to occasional, as requiredSecurity Clearance: Active DoD Secret Clearance (or higher) requiredPosition OverviewWe are seeking an Embedded Cyber Software Engineer to join a highly collaborative and agile engineering team supporting next-generation Ground Combat Vehicle platforms. This role is part of the Cyber and C5ISR (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance) product realization team, responsible for delivering secure, interoperable embedded software solutions.The ideal candidate will contribute across the full software development lifecycle, supporting system architecture, embedded software development, cybersecurity implementation, integration, and testing within security-enhanced embedded Linux environments.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and maintain embedded software applications for secure vehicle-based systemsApply computer science, engineering, and mathematical principles to software development for embedded hardware platformsCollaborate with cross-functional teams to define system architecture and hardware/software interfacesParticipate in all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC):Requirements analysisDesign & implementationIntegration & verificationFormal testing and validationDevelop and maintain software tools, scripts, and XML configurations for system implementation and verificationEnsure software compliance with cybersecurity, accreditation, and configuration control requirementsDevelop data and message transformation solutions to enable interoperability across multiple systems/domainsWork within Security-Enhanced embedded Linux or VxWorks environmentsPerform peer reviews, defect tracking, and resolution activitiesSupport cyber test design, environments, and tools, including trade studies for performance, cost, and reliabilityDevelop and review technical documentation, including CDRLs and design artifacts, ensuring contract complianceImplement and configure cybersecurity controls, including firewalls and secure communication protocolsRequired Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related STEM field (ABET preferred)Active DoD Secret Clearance (or higher)Strong programming experience in C, C++, C#, Java, or RustExperience with embedded systems development, particularly in defense, automotive, or similar environmentsHands-on experience with:Embedded Linux or VxWorks (OS internals, drivers, BSPs)Device driver development and low-level programmingHardware/software integration and debuggingExperience implementing cybersecurity measures in embedded systemsKnowledge of communication protocols such as TCP/IP, UART, SPI, I2CExperience with modern development tools:IDEs, version control (Git), CI/CD pipelines, defect tracking toolsAbility to interpret high-level requirements and translate into technical solutionsPreferred Qualifications Experience with reverse engineering and software analysisFamiliarity with vehicle systems, electronic hardware, and LRUsExperience working in C5ISR or defense systems environmentsCybersecurity certifications such as CISSP, CEH, or similarExperience supporting system-level integration, test, and validationAdditional Requirements Ability to work occasional non-standard hours or weekends based on program needsMust meet anthropometric requirements to safely access and operate within military vehicle environments (e.g., climbing, confined spaces)
