Sheet Metal Designer/Estimator
The Designer/Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate project estimates and producing detailed 2D and/or 3D AutoCAD drawings to support bids, proposals, and project execution. This role bridges design and cost analysis, working closely with project managers, vendors, and field teams to ensure constructability, pricing accuracy, and alignment with project specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
Design & Drafting
Create and modify detailed 2D and/or 3D AutoCAD drawings for bid and construction purposes
Interpret architectural, engineering, and customer-provided drawings and specifications
Develop layouts, schematics, and technical drawings that align with project requirements
Maintain organized drawing files and ensure revisions are properly documented
Estimating
Prepare quantity takeoffs and detailed cost estimates from drawings and specifications
Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing
Analyze labor, material, equipment, and overhead costs to ensure accurate estimates
Assist with value engineering and cost-saving recommendations
Support bid preparation, scope reviews, and proposal documentation
Collaboration & Project Support
Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and operations teams during preconstruction
Participate in bid reviews and project handoff meetings
Respond to RFIs and clarification requests during the bidding process
Support project teams with drawing updates and estimate revisions as needed
Qualifications
Required
Minimum 3 years of experience in a Designer, Estimator, or combined Designer/Estimator role
Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D and/or 3D)
Experience performing quantity takeoffs and preparing cost estimates
Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and industry terminology
High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously
Preferred
Experience in construction, industrial services, specialty contracting, or engineering environments
Familiarity with estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, PlanSwift, ProEst, or similar)
Knowledge of materials, labor rates, and construction methods relevant to the industry
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Design, or related field

Pay: $59,307.84 - $71,424.49 per year
