Forward Deployed Engineer

If you're offered a seat on a rocket ship, don't ask which seat. Just get on. This is one of those seats. We backed an early-stage company that's growing faster than anyone expected. They need their first Forward Deployed Engineer in New York to serve as the technical bridge between a Bay Area engineering team and customers across North America and Europe. This isn't a support role. You'll be involved in architecture discussions, scoping sessions, and sales meetings, often as the only technical person on the call. You'll own the customer relationship from the first deployment conversation through production and beyond. When the customer's engineering team has questions, you answer them. When a deal requires a technical deep dive, you lead it. When something breaks, you fix it.The role sits at the intersection of FDE and Sales Engineering. The company is lean enough that these responsibilities can't be separated yet, so you need to be capable of doing both. What the job actually involves:The founder handles the first sales call. After that, it's you. You join follow-up meetings that get technical, covering scoping, integrations, architecture walkthroughs, and capability questions from the customer's engineering team. You learn the product well enough to eventually operate independently of the founder. Once a customer is deployed, you own that relationship entirely. You'll travel as needed. This isn't a consulting road-warrior role, but when a customer needs on-site presence, you'll go. The New York location is important because there are plans for a small office there, and the East Coast timezone provides real overlap with European customers. What we're looking for:Autonomous by nature.Prioritizes communication over code.A builder who ships.Comfortable with ambiguity at every level.Stage: SeedI will provide more details once we connect.
