Adapted Recreation Coach

Job TypePart-time Description YMCA Adapted Recreation Coaches are responsible for assisting and coaching within the Adapted Recreation programs in accordance with the YMCA's "everyone is a winner" philosophy. QUALIFICATIONSThe listed qualifications are representative of the attributes necessary for successful performance of the position. Technical Knowledge/Skills/Experience:Position requires a sincere, caring individual who possesses knowledge in the area of Adapted Recreation. Interests and skills in coaching Adapted sports are preferred. Background in YMCA philosophy is desired. This person should possess sensitivity to the needs of individuals and the ability to build rapport with participants and caregivers/parents. Past experience coaching. Proficiencies and Professionalism: Language skills - Ability to: Effectively present information and respond to inquiries at an individual or group level.Communicate effectively with staff, members, participants, parents and volunteers.Read, analyze, and interpret general and technical business communication.Mathematical skills - Ability to: Perform practical mathematical functions as necessary.Process timesheets, including work hour calculations.Cognitive skills - Ability to:Solve practical problems based on established guidelines.Interpret instructions in a variety of written or oral formats.Work Performance Skills - Ability to:Organize, prioritize and manage tasks with limited supervision.Be an effective team member.Perform to leadership capacity.Make good, sound decisions and take decisive action when called to do so.Consistently and positively interact with customers and coworkers.Demonstrate willingness to learn, accept responsibility, take initiative and be flexible.Maintain confidentiality.Enthusiastically support organization and department programs and activities.Exhibit the core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:To ensure that all participants maintain their sense of ownership within the program. Stress and monitor health and safety of all participants. To encourage sportsmanship as an immediate and long-term goal. To ensure success for all participants, while developing sports skills. Be able to relate goals and philosophies of YMCA and Special Olympics to participants. To maintain an open, informal line of communication with the Gymnastics & Adapted Recreation Director. To encourage integration of participants within a community setting. Requirements PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Position requires employee to observe facility and groups of participants by sight and sound. Must be able to easily move through all program areas and effectively communicate and actively interact with customers. Must be able to lift, carry and load equipment, furnishings and program supplies up to 50 pounds. Salary Description$10.17/hour
