Hours are based on student transportation needs and typically include split shifts before and after school.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESAssist with Student Behavior:Implement and follow Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), IEPs, and safety protocolsAssist in behavior monitoring and data collection on student progressSupport de-escalation and crisis intervention strategies as neededParticipate in IEP meetings when appropriateBecome trained in crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques as neededAssist with Student Support:Support students during bus loading, unloading, and transitAssist with transitions and ensure student safety at all timesProvide support with daily living skills and mobility as neededReinforce appropriate behavior and social skills.Provide individualized or small group instruction based on student's IEP and specific needsTransitioning between locationsOther responsibilities include:Ensure a safe and orderly bus environmentFollow all transportation and emergency proceduresWork independently and as part of a teamAssist students on the playground and in the lunchroom setting according to behavior plans.Follow federal, state, and district restraint and isolation guidelines.Communicate with the students' case manager and transportation coordinator.SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONSCandidates must possess a High School Diploma or GED.Paraeducators must meet one of the following:Have received a passing score on one of the assessments approved by the boardHold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or universityHave earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher at an accredited college or universityHave completed an apprenticeship as a paraeducator, in a program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training CouncilClearance for state and national background checks as a result of fingerprinting; successfully pass criminal records check.Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.Demonstrated knowledge and proficient use of English usage, spelling, grammar, punctuation, basic math and reading skills sufficient to work with and serve as a model for students.Experience working with students of various ages.Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Record of dependability, punctuality, flexibility and strong attendance.Ability to work independently.Capable of lifting up to 40 pounds.
