Project Manager (Mid‑Level)Job SummaryThe Project Manager - New Power Generation Construction is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing gas transmission and distribution capital projects, including complex and high‑profile initiatives requiring specialized project management oversight. This role manages key phases of the project life cycle—planning, estimating, permitting, procurement, construction oversight, in‑service facilitation, and close‑out—while ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with all applicable codes and standards.The Project Manager collaborates with internal stakeholders, contractors, municipalities, and regulatory agencies to ensure safe, reliable, and cost‑effective project delivery. This role applies sound project management judgment and independently manages assigned projects while escalating significant risks or issues as appropriate. The position supports Engineering, New Business, Sales & Services, and Local Operations through strong communication, coordination, and stakeholder partnership.Essential FunctionsIndependently manages planning, estimating, permitting, scheduling, and risk analysis for assigned projectsEstablishes and maintains project scope, schedule, cost baselines, and change management processesLeads material procurement, engineering services coordination, pipeline interconnects, land agreements, and reimbursementsPrepares projects for bidding and supports contractor selection and contract administrationMonitors field construction activities to ensure safe, efficient, and high‑quality execution in accordance with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirementsProvides construction support for internal and external customersActively manages project budgets, forecasts, capital spend tracking, and invoice approvalsEnsures projects are completed in a safe and reliable manner, within ±5% of approved cost estimates, on schedule, and without significant regulatory notices, violations, or citationsCoordinates with project controls, inspectors, engineering, land services, and operations to resolve issues and manage dependenciesBuilds and maintains effective relationships with contractors, municipalities, and local authoritiesCommunicates project status, risks, mitigation strategies, and performance metrics to stakeholdersSupports Engineering, New Business, and Sales & Services by developing cost estimates and project feasibility inputCollaborates with peers across NiSource companies and industry partners to promote cost‑effective project execution and continuous improvementApplies local operations input into project planning and execution to support seamless turnover and long‑term operabilityRequired QualificationsBachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or related field or equivalent experience (minimum 9 years total experience)5+ years of experience managing construction‑related projects3+ years of experience managing project budgets, forecasts, and cost controlsWorking knowledge of operations support systems (e.g., WMS or similar tools)Valid in‑state driver’s license upon hirePreferred Qualifications3+ years of experience working directly with pipeline construction contractorWorking knowledge of local, state, and federal operating and construction codesProject Management Professional (PMP) certification (PMI)Experience supporting large, complex, or high‑visibility infrastructure projectsPhysical DemandsThe preceding description is not intended to be a complete list of all duties and responsibilities.
