ABOUT THIS POSITION
The Planning & Development Department (PDD) guides the physical development of the city by preserving our historic sites, planning what can be built where, and ensuring safe construction of buildings and infrastructure. The process is governed through development and enforcement of city codes and ordinances. PDD is currently looking to fill a vacancy for an Electrical Plans Engineer.
The Electrical Plans Engineer will review and examine electrical construction plans for compliance with adopted codes and ordinances. They will provide technical and review assistance to the Electrical Plans Examiners I and II as well as architects, engineers, contractors and field inspectors to resolve intricate code issues. Work includes interpreting electrical plans, solving unique code interpretation and design problems, and assisting in the development of electrical construction codes. Work is performed under the general direction of Major Commercial Team Leader.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
Knowledge of electrical system design pertaining to building construction and specifications of any complexity to objectively interpret and consistently apply code requirements.
Knowledge of NEC and construction codes.
Knowledge of standard electrical construction materials.
Ability to read and interpret building construction plans.
Ability to use professional judgement in application of code requirements.
SALARY
Pay Range: $102,668.80 to $137,592.00 annually.
Hiring Range: $102,668.80 to $124,800.00 annually.

Pay range is the entire compensation range for the position classification.
Hiring range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.
Internal Only: Please understand that this is pay grade 069. If selected, your salary offer will be based on the applicable promotion or demotion worksheet in accordance with the City Pay Ordinance.
Promotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade increase.
Demotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade decrease.
Lateral transfers occur when there is no change to the last two digits of the pay grade.
When there is a change in the first digit of the pay grade, there may also be a change to your classification or unit.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Three years of experience in the building construction industry relating to electrical work and electrical engineering.
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substitute.
By the end of probation, must meet the following two requirements:
Registered Professional Engineer/Electrical (PE) in the State of Arizona
AND
* ICC Electrical Plans Examiner (E3) OR
* IAEI Electrical Inspector/Plan Review
All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.
Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
Five or more years of experience of electrical system design in building construction.
Five or more years of experience reviewing electrical construction plans.
Experience using construction permit software.
Experience with Electronic Plan Review Software.
Experience preparing and interpreting building construction plans.
Professional registration in the State of Arizona as a Structural or Civil Professional Engineer (PE).
