LOCATION OF (1) POSITION(S) TO BE FILLED: DEPARTMENT OF MENTAL HEALTH & SUBSTANCE ABUSE SERVICES, HARDEMAN COUNTYThis position is located at Western Mental Health Institute.This classification, Security Guard 1, currently has an approved hiring rate of $2,436.00 monthly/$29,232.00 yearly.This is an on-site position.This position requires a criminal background check. Therefore, you may be required to provide information about your criminal history in order to be considered for this position.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:Education equivalent to graduation from a standard high school; qualifying full-time law enforcement, security or related experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Necessary Special Qualifications:A valid motor vehicle operator's license may be required for employment in some positions.
Overview
Under general supervision, is responsible for institutional and related security work of average difficulty; and performs related work as required. This is the entry-working class in the security guard sub-series. An employee in this class may be assigned to work any shift in providing a full range of institutional and other security activities, such as protection of public buildings. This class differs from that of Security Guard 2 in that an incumbent of the latter is responsible for acting as lead security guard on an assigned shift.
Responsibilities
Performs various security activities such as paroling facilities, monitoring alarms, monitoring security systems, checking for safety hazards, and violations of laws and rules. Operates security equipment in the performance of security tasks such as two-way radios and other communication devices, patrol and other transportation vehicles.
Controls the entrance and exit of individuals by checking for identity, purpose of visit, and authorization. Escorts individuals to ensure their safety as needed.
Responds to calls and takes appropriate action to assist in emergency situations. Searches for and apprehends missing or unauthorized individuals.
Advises any security concerns to supervisor. Communicates with law enforcement agencies to exchange information and request assistance.
Prepares and maintains various reports such as incident reports, vehicle citations, visitor logs, and personal property reports.
