This RN plays a critical role in preparing patients for surgery by ensuring they are medically and emotionally ready for anesthesia. These nurses conduct thorough preoperative assessments, which include reviewing medical history, current medications, allergies, and previous anesthesia experiences. They educate patients about the anesthesia process, answer questions, and help alleviate anxiety. Preanesthesia nurses also collaborate closely with anesthesiologists and surgical teams to identify potential risks and ensure all necessary documentation and lab results are complete before the procedure.
