OVERVIEW OF POSITION:
The Assistant Controller is a key member of the site finance team and is responsible for overseeing core accounting functions including General Accounting, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and Payroll. This role partners closely with Operations, Purchasing, and other cross-functional teams to ensure accurate financial reporting, optimize cost efficiency, and maintain a strong control environment. The position reports directly to the Controller and works collaboratively with corporate headquarters.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Oversee day-to-day accounting operations including General Accounting, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and Payroll
Manage the monthly close process, ensuring accurate, timely, and GAAP-compliant financial results
Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and balance sheet analyses
Ensure accurate processing of customer billings, cash receipts, vendor payments, and payroll transactions
Monitor and enforce segregation of duties and internal controls across all accounting functions
Partner with Human Resources to ensure accurate payroll processing, benefit accruals, and related reporting
Support revenue recognition activities in coordination with the Controller
Maintain accounting policies and procedures to ensure consistency, compliance, and audit readiness
Drive continuous improvement in accounting processes, controls, and close efficiency
Support ERP optimization and data integrity initiatives
Assist with post-merger integration and process standardization efforts
Mentor, develop, and review the work of accounting staff
Collaborate with the Cost Accounting team to ensure accurate financial statements and identify opportunities for margin improvement
Serve as a trusted finance partner to cross-functional teams
Communicate clearly and effectively with accounting staff, Controller, and cross-functional stakeholders
SKILLS • EXPERIENCE • EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance (required)
CPA preferred
Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience with demonstrated experience leading and developing accounting teams
Manufacturing experience required; aerospace and defense strongly preferred
Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal controls
ERP experience required, Visibility ERP a plus
Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capabilities
Ability to operate effectively in both hands-on and leadership capacities
