Position motivates student athletes to develop an appreciation of the sport.Essential DutiesAssist the Athletic Director to create a competitive event schedule and manage meet-day logistics.Foster a positive team culture that emphasizes sportsmanship, discipline, teamwork, and personal growth.Work with the Athletic Trainer to promote athlete health and safety, including awareness of hydration, weather conditions, and injury protocolsDevelops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team development that promotes team growth, endurance, and injury prevention. Coach must be able to provide guidance for student-athletes in proper running techniques, conditioning, pacing strategies, and race preparation.Coordinate transportation, equipment needs, and uniform distribution with the Athletic Director.Supervise student-athletes during practices, meets, travel, and team activities to ensure safety and appropriate conduct.Ensure compliance with all school policies, conference rules, and DIAA Rules and Regulations.Communicate regularly with athletes, parents, athletic administration, and school staff regarding team expectations, schedules, and updates.Maintain accurate records including attendance, eligibility, meet results, and program statisticsSupervise and mentor assistant coaches and support staff within the program.Encourage off-season training, conditioning, and participation in summer programs when appropriate.Support program development through recruiting within the school and encouraging student participation. Assist team events, and recognition of student-athletes.Work with the Athletic Director to monitor athlete academic progress and promote academic accountability among team members.Promote and support the overall athletic program and represent the school with professionalism.Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required)Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills. Must possess a thorough knowledge of NFHS Rules, DIAA Regulations, best practices, and strategies of the sport. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents, and students.
