Embedded Software Engineer

**This is a direct hire for one of our clients working on site out of the Carlsbad, CA offices. Eligible candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without visa or sponsorship.**Our client is seeking a Embedded Software Engineer (Battery Management System) to lead development of a high-voltage BMS platform. This individual will serve as the technical owner for BMS software, driving architecture, implementation, validation, and long-term strategy while partnering with embedded software and electrical engineering teams. This role is critical to maintaining ownership of core vehicle intellectual property and closing a key technical gap within the engineering organization.ResponsibilitiesLead development and ownership of high-voltage BMS softwareDefine technical direction and execution plans for the BMS programDesign, develop, debug, test, and validate embedded softwareTranslate system requirements into software architecture and implementationDevelop embedded drivers from hardware schematics and component datasheetsBring up, test, and troubleshoot new circuit board designsCollaborate with electrical, systems, and embedded software teamsParticipate in code, software design, and schematic reviewsMaintain high standards for software quality, performance, and maintainabilitySupport internal ownership of critical vehicle technologyMentor junior engineers as the team growsQualificationsBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field10+ years of embedded software development experience3+ years of high-voltage Battery Management System experienceStrong C programming skills with working knowledge of C++Experience with bare-metal embedded systemsDeep understanding of distributed high-voltage BMS architecturesKnowledge of functional safety principlesExperience in Linux development environmentsProficiency with Git and source control practicesExperience using PythonTrack record of delivering production-quality embedded softwareExperience using oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, logic analyzers, and related test equipmentStrong technical communication skillsAbility to take ownership and lead complex engineering initiativesComfortable working in a fast-paced startup environmentNice to HavesAutomotive EV battery systems experienceExperience with Tesla, Rivian, hybrid vehicle programs, or similar organizationsKnowledge of EV architectures and subsystemsExperience with CAN bus and LIN bus communicationsFamiliarity with JiraBackground in aerospace, medical device, industrial automation, or other high-voltage industriesLeadership or mentoring experienceExperience leveraging AI-assisted development toolsOur Vetting ProcessAt Emergent Staffing, we work hard to find the Engineers who are the right fit for our clients.
