MSD Sped Instructional Assistant

Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate instructional assistant to support students with special needs at Dixon Elementary School. This full-time position involves working closely with teachers and staff to create a positive and inclusive learning environment. The ideal candidate will be committed to fostering the academic, social, and emotional development of students with diverse learning needs. Responsibilities Assist the classroom teacher in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs. Support students in their academic tasks, providing one-on-one or small group instruction as needed. Help maintain a safe and organized classroom environment conducive to learning. Monitor and document student progress, behavior, and participation, and communicate findings to the teacher. Collaborate with teachers and other staff members to develop and adapt instructional materials and strategies. Assist in the management of student behavior, using positive reinforcement techniques to encourage appropriate conduct. Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in special education. Provide support during transitions, including moving between classes, lunch, and recess. Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and adhere to all school policies and regulations. Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and staff to promote a collaborative educational environment. Requirements High school diploma or equivalent; associate's degree or higher in education or a related field preferred. Experience working with children, particularly those with special needs, is highly desirable. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team. Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping students succeed. Ability to follow directions and adapt to the varying needs of students. Basic knowledge of special education laws and practices is a plus. Proficiency in using technology and educational software to support instruction. CPR and First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain. Must pass background checks as required by school district policies.
