Intern, Financial Analyst Cost Accounting

Job Summary JOB DESCRIPTION We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Cost Accountant Intern to join our team for Summer 2026. In this role, you will support the Finance and Operations teams by assisting with cost accounting activities, financial analysis, and reporting for our manufacturing operations. This internship provides hands-on exposure to real-world cost accounting processes in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment and is ideal for a motivated student seeking practical finance and accounting experience.Primary Duties & ResponsibilitiesThe Cost Accountant Intern will assist with a variety of cost accounting and financial analysis activities, including but not limited to:Support preparation and analysis of manufacturing costs, including material, labor, and overheadAssist with month-end close activities such as cost accruals, journal entries, and reconciliationsHelp analyze production variances (standard vs. actual costs) and summarize key driversParticipate in inventory accounting processes, including cycle counts and inventory valuation analysisAssist in maintaining cost data within ERP systems and ensuring data accuracyPrepare ad-hoc financial analyses and reports for Finance and Operations leadershipCollaborate with cross-functional teams (Operations, Supply Chain, Engineering) to understand cost drivers and manufacturing processesParticipate in process improvement initiatives related to cost tracking, reporting, or internal controlsEducation & ExperienceCurrently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related fieldSkills & Other RequirementsStrong analytical and quantitative skills with attention to detailBasic understanding of accounting principles; familiarity with cost accounting concepts preferredProficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, data analysis)Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environmentEffective written and verbal communication skillsStrong desire to learn, ask questions, and contribute in a team-oriented settingAdditional InformationInternship Duration: 10 – 14 weeks.At Coherent, interns are valued members of our team and have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions from day one.
