Regional Executive Director
Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced and strategic Regional Executive Director to oversee operations for three behavioral health treatment centers throughout the state of Virginia. This senior leadership role is responsible for ensuring operational excellence, regulatory compliance, financial performance, program growth, and strong community partnerships across multiple facilities.The ideal candidate will have extensive multi-site behavioral health operations experience within Virginia and a strong understanding of state licensing requirements, Medicaid, Joint Commission standards, and behavioral healthcare regulations. This individual must be a hands-on leader capable of driving organizational growth while maintaining exceptional quality of care and operational efficiency.The Regional Executive Director will partner closely with executive leadership, facility leadership teams, state agencies, referral partners, and community stakeholders to support continued expansion and long-term success throughout the region.Key ResponsibilitiesOperational LeadershipProvide executive oversight for three behavioral health treatment centers throughout VirginiaEnsure all facilities operate efficiently, ethically, and in compliance with company standards and regulatory requirementsDrive operational consistency, accountability, and performance across all locationsMonitor census, staffing, budgets, KPIs, and overall operational performanceSupport Executive Directors and facility leadership teams with day-to-day operations and strategic initiativesDevelop and implement operational improvements, SOPs, and best practices across all programsCompliance & Regulatory OversightEnsure compliance with Virginia state regulations, licensing requirements, Medicaid standards, and Joint Commission standardsMaintain readiness for audits, inspections, and accreditation surveysOversee policy implementation and risk management initiativesPartner with clinical and compliance teams to ensure quality assurance and patient safety standards are consistently metStay informed on changing state and federal regulations impacting behavioral healthcare operationsStrategic Growth & DevelopmentAssist with new facility openings, expansions, and operational buildouts throughout VirginiaCollaborate with executive leadership on regional growth strategies and market development initiativesIdentify opportunities for operational enhancements, program expansion, and increased market presenceSupport recruitment, onboarding, and development of high-performing leadership teamsLeadership & Team DevelopmentProvide mentorship, coaching, and leadership development for Executive Directors and department leadersFoster a positive and collaborative culture focused on accountability, compassion, and excellenceLead regional meetings, performance reviews, and leadership initiativesEnsure strong communication and alignment between corporate leadership and facility teamsCommunity & Government RelationsMaintain and strengthen relationships with state agencies, local officials, community organizations, hospitals, referral sources, and other strategic partnersRepresent the organization at industry events, networking functions, and community meetingsUtilize existing relationships within Virginia to support facility growth and community engagement effortsServe as a liaison between the organization and local/state stakeholders when necessaryQualificationsBachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Behavioral Health, or related field preferredMinimum of 7+ years of senior leadership experience in behavioral health or healthcare operationsPrior multi-unit or regional leadership experience requiredExtensive knowledge of Virginia behavioral health regulations, licensing standards, and Medicaid programsStrong understanding of Joint Commission standards and compliance requirementsExperience overseeing inpatient and/or outpatient behavioral health treatment programs preferredProven experience with new facility openings, operational scaling, and strategic growth initiativesExisting relationships with Virginia state agencies, community organizations, referral partners, and/or local political stakeholders strongly preferredStrong financial acumen and experience managing operational budgets and KPIsExceptional leadership, communication, and organizational skillsAbility to travel regularly throughout Virginia as neededPreferred ExperienceExperience within substance abuse and mental health treatment settingsExperience overseeing multiple levels of care including Detox, Residential, PHP, IOP, and OP programsExperience working with Medicaid-funded programs and state-funded servicesProven success building and developing high-performing leadership teams
