Survey Instrument OperatorLand Development SurveyingLocation: High Point, NCDepartment: SurveyingReports To: Field Crew CoordinatorFLSA Status: Non-ExemptAbout the RoleFEI is seeking a Survey Instrument Operator to support land development surveying projects by assisting Survey Party Chiefs in the field. This is an entry-level field position focused on learning professional land surveying practices, equipment operation, and job-site coordination.This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy outdoor, hands-on work and are interested in building a long-term career in land surveying.Key ResponsibilitiesAssist the Survey Party Chief with day-to-day field surveying operationsLearn and apply proper field surveying methods and proceduresSupport field work for:Boundary surveysTopographic surveysControl surveysMortgage surveysAs-built surveysConstruction staking and layoutOperate and help maintain survey equipment under supervisionAssist with gathering tools and supplies before leaving the office each dayPerform assigned tasks accurately, safely, and efficientlyClearly record field notes and observationsIdentify and communicate data quality or safety concerns to the Party ChiefRequired QualificationsHigh school diplomaWillingness to work outdoors in varying weather and terrainAbility to take direction and work as part of a field crewStrong attention to detail and basic problem-solving skillsValid Driver's License or ability to obtain onePreferred QualificationsExposure to land surveying or construction environmentsExperience with Topcon survey equipmentInterest in advancing toward Survey Technician, Party Chief, or SI rolesFamiliarity with basic computer use for time and expense reportingWork Environment & SchedulePrimarily field-based positionWork occurs in varied outdoor environments and weather conditionsMon-Fri, with occasional weekend work and travel to meet client needsPhysical RequirementsThis position requires the ability to:Move across varied terrain for extended periodsTransport and position survey equipment of varying weightsOperate precision instruments outdoorsMaintain physical stamina in diverse weather conditionsCommunicate clearly with crew members and supervisorsPerformance MetricsUtilizationEfficiencyResponsibilityCommunicationWork ethicPre-Employment RequirementAll candidates receiving an offer must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening per FEI Health and Safety requirements and may be subject to random drug screening while on job sites.Recruiter Notice
