For more information regarding VSP Vision benefits, please click here .General SummaryThe primary function of this role is to help patients find eyeglasses and contact lenses that are the best match for each individual while providing the highest levels of quality and care.Essential FunctionsDetermine the reason for the patient's visit, identify lifestyle needs, and deliver recommendations to patients for eyewear needs following the prescription given by their optometristAttract and retain patients by delivering exceptional patient service, fostering patient retention, and promoting outstanding patient satisfactionAssist the patient in the selection of frames and coordinate frames with optical measurements and prescriptionRecommend specific lenses, lens coatings, and frames to suit patient needs, occupations, habits, and facial featuresTake measurements of eyes, assist patients with adjustments and/or troubleshooting, and dispense eyewearRepair eyewear as neededEnsure correct pricing and realistic delivery time quotes to patientsPrepare and submit a work order to the optical laboratory that includes instructions for the grinding and mounting of lenses in framesFinal inspect completed orders to ensure they match the patient's order specificationInstruct patients on correct eyeglass and contact lens care and maintenanceAssist the patient with inserting, removing, and caring for contact lensesClean and merchandise displays on a daily basis, and ensure that patients have access to glasses by checking remaining inventory to restock empty displaysAssist with insurance billing and processing ordersDocument all patient communication in patient records within the practice software systemWork on special projects and perform other related duties as assigned or requestedMay oversee trainees or student opticiansJob SpecificationsTypically has the following skills or abilities:One to two years of experience in related fieldMust have an active applicable State licensureCertification by a nationally recognized optician association as an optician, if required by state law based on practice locationWorking knowledge of MS Office packageDemonstrated ability to successfully perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environmentEffective verbal communication skills to prioritize multiple tasks and to be available for incoming calls and inquiriesEffective written communication skills to clearly document customer situations, as well as prepare letters to confirm agreements madeExcellent interpersonal and rapport-building skillsAbility to ask appropriate and relevant questions to identify patient needsProven problem-solving, negotiations, and decision-making skillsAbility to use appropriate discretion and judgment in applying patient/call handling guidelinesAbility to listen, process transactions, and interact with patients simultaneously in a fast-paced environmentAbility to provide enthusiastic and concise communication to meet and exceed patient expectations, as well as foster positive relationships with team membersWorking ConditionsThe working environment is generally favorable.
