Project Estimator
Job Summary:Under the direction of the Estimating Manager (EM), the Estimator (E) is responsible for the success of the Estimating Department. The Estimator will help monitor the estimating staff's performance from the time the bid is received from our client to the acceptance or ejection of our bid. The Estimator will oversee the turnover of any successful bids being directed to Operations. The Estimator is a primary liaison between the Director of Estimating and all Owners, Architects and Subcontractors.Primary Duties and Responsibilities:Responsible for the recruitment and retention of Estimating Department Staff.Orienting, training and development of Estimating Department Staff.Has an understanding of all bid documents including owner contracts, plans and specifications. Provide successful competitive estimates to clients. (A 25% success ratio in being low bidder and not greater than 3% low.)Provide preliminary conceptual bid estimates using whatever information is available.As time allows, provide sub bids and prepare summary sheet to Project Managers for estimating major changes to scope on a current project.Constantly provide feedback to the Director of Estimating on ways to improve the Estimating Department.Provide quarterly and annual analysis of type of bids completed and the success rate of our estimates.Provide a historical analysis of unit costs on the bids to use in the future bid process.Develop and maintain positive and long term relationships with all current and potential clients including, Owners, Architects, Subcontractors, Vendors and employees.Act as primary liaison between the Director of Estimating and all bid related matters. Keep the Director of Estimating informed of any issues of significance.Works closely with the Senior Management Team to plan and implement the President's vision.Coordinate assignments and implementation of policies and procedures to improve infrastructure within the company.Skills and Educational Requirements:Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Engineering from an accredited 4-year University preferred or five years experience in commercial construction as an Estimator.Experience in estimating projects in commercial construction related to retail, site development, light industrial, tenant improvement or grocery preferred.Knowledge of SWPPP regulations in relation to estimating.Certified in First Aid and CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) preferred.Must have the following computer skills: Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Project, Word, Excel and Procore.Working Conditions:This position is generally located in the company's main office in Rocklin, CA. Some travel may be required while visiting jobsites.This position is classified as Exempt and employees may work more or less than 8 hours in a day or more than 40 hours in any workweek without change in compensation.This position is generally assigned to a Monday through Friday workweek between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. but employees may be required to work any day at any time when deemed appropriate.This position requires frequent visits to construction jobsites. Physical conditions at jobsites are varied. When visiting jobsites, Estimators should expect a lot of walking often on uneven surfaces.Must be compliant with the Company Substance Abuse Policy.Must adhere to all applicable Tilton Pacific Policy and Procedures.Must adhere to Tilton Pacific Injury & Illness Prevention Plan.
