This role is designed to introduce students or early‐career professionals to healthcare revenue cycle operations through structured exposure to patient registration, billing, and collections workflows. The intern supports day‐to‐day activities under close supervision while developing a foundational understanding of how patient care translates into accurate billing and timely cash collection.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:Registration SupportObserve and assist with patient registration and insurance verification activitiesSupport demographic and coverage data accuracy checksLearn the importance of front‐end accuracy on downstream billing and collectionsBilling SupportAssist with basic billing tasks such as claim review preparation, documentation organization, and work queue supportObserve claim submission and follow‐up processesLearn common causes of claim errors and denialsCollections SupportSupport account follow‐up activities, including documentation gathering and account researchObserve payer and patient collection workflowsLearn escalation pathways and compliance considerations in collectionsPayment Posting SupportAssist with posting patient payments and balancing daily activityObserve cashiering and deposit workflowsLearn reconciliation principles and internal controls related to cash handlingGeneral ResponsibilitiesMaintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and organizational policiesDemonstrate professionalism when interacting with patients, staff, and leadersParticipate in training, huddles, and learning activities as assignedComplete special projects or administrative tasks as assigned to support departmental needsOther job duties as assigned.Skills and Experience:Required:Current enrollment in a program related to business, healthcare administration, or a related fieldStrong attention to detail and willingness to learnBasic computer skills, including Microsoft OfficeProfessional communication skills and customer‐service mindsetPreferred:* Prior clerical, customer service, or healthcare exposureSummary of Benefits at Winona Health:At Winona Health, we are dedicated to offering a comprehensive and affordable benefits package for our employees and their families.
