Job DescriptionLead Building Trades TrainerCLC, Inc. is a private non-profit technical school in its 23rd year of operation, providing training and employment services to low-income adults, disadvantaged youth and young adults, unemployed workers, and individuals with backgrounds. CLC, Inc. provides technical training in high-growth/high-demand occupations and places its graduates in career jobs in Advanced Manufacturing, Logistics, Building Trades, and office Careers.Responsibilities:The Lead Building Trades Trainer will provide basic construction skills training for the (1) Building Trades Pre-apprenticeship and (2) YouthBuild programs.The Pre-Apprenticeship program is designed to assist participants in kickstarting a career in the building trades industry by providing basic construction knowledge to students who can choose a direct path into a Registered Apprenticeship Program.The YouthBuild program is a community-based pre-apprenticeship program that provides job training and educational opportunities for at-risk youth ages 16-24 who have previously dropped out of high school. Youth learn vocational skills in Construction and other in-demand industries. Youth split their time between the vocational training work site and the classroom, where they earn their GED or equivalency degree.The Lead Construction Trainer will be required to complete an ICTP (Instructor Certification Training Program) and be certified as Craft Instructor to certify students in NCCER Construction Curriculum. The Lead Building Trades Trainer will also be required to attend OSHA training and obtain the proper credentials to certify students in Construction OSHA.Primary Responsibilities Include but not limited to: Teaches construction skills, including demolition, rough framing, roofing, drywall, finish carpentry, sheet metal, electrical, plumbing, and painting. Assists in the evaluation of student knowledge and skills in Construction. Participates in the development of project–based curriculum that includes Construction. In conjunction with the Construction Manager, the Lead Construction Trainer will be responsible for the construction site, maintaining production safety, and interfacing with partners, subcontractors, and inspectors. Teaches the proper use and handling of all hand, power, and equipment tools. Assists with overall safety enforcement. Informs the supervisor about material needs for the job site. Keeps track of all tools and equipment used on the job daily. Attend all staff meetings and coordinate individual plans with other staff. Maintains proper records as required. Uses a syllabus for each assigned course that contains the name and number of the course, a course description, the assignment schedule, a list of the student learning outcomes, the required textbooks, required tools and supplies, the evaluation, and grading procedures. Establishes a safe environment conducive to classroom and/or laboratory learning. Completes and submits required rosters, attendance documentation, and grades on time. Demonstrates excellent written and oral communication skills. Maintains class control during instruction and handles disruptions in the classroom/lab. Discipline is dealt with in a dignified manner. Demonstrates respect for students as individuals. Demonstrates accessibility in dealing with students’ needs individually and as a group and communicates clearly to students. Counsels students with grades and attendance problems, if needed. Performs any other duties as assigned. QualificationsAt least one year of experience training or supervising in Construction. Must have basic knowledge and skills in Construction, electrical, and plumbing.
