Deputy Principal

The Principal and Deputy Principal implement a co-leadership model as each others' thought partner and confidant, guided by the Framework for School Leadership at Revere High School. Together, they develop programming that prepares students to realize the Revere High School Vision of the Graduate. They function under the direction of the Superintendent of Schools to recommend policies and programs, to effectively implement approved policies and programs, and to effectively meet the educational needs of all students. They recommend individuals for employment and they supervise/evaluate the work of all building personnel. The Deputy Principal functions as the school's Chief Academic Officer and acts in the absence of the principal. Reports to Superintendent of Schools Duties include but are not limited to the following. Additions and modifications to these representative duties and responsibilities are under the purview of the Superintendent of Schools and the Building Principal. The Principal and Deputy Principal share leadership of the following key responsibilities Provide leadership in the development of curriculum, promotion of innovative instructional practices, and the coordination of the teaching and learning activities for High School Students. Provide effective and timely supervision/evaluation in alignment with state regulations and contract provisions. Ensure that all teachers use a variety of formal and informal methods and assessments to measure student learning, growth, and understanding and make necessary adjustments to their practice when students are not meeting standards. Develop PD opportunities on effective instructional strategies for Restorative Practices, Cultural Competency, and CBL. Lead all staff in the effective implementation of district/school priorities including Competency (Mastery) Based Learning/Grading (CBL), Restorative Practices, Cultural Competency, and Deeper Learning. Provide leadership to ensure that instructional strategies and materials meet the needs of Revere's diverse student population, including but not limited to differences of ability, developmental level, gender, interest, race, ethnicity, and experience. Develop and maintain cooperative relationships with families and community organizations. Respond promptly to inquiries and concerns of families, students, staff and others. Collaborate with educators to support the on-going work of Professional Growth Time and Advisory. Continuously evaluate existing programs of instruction and make recommendations to improve student outcomes. Comply with all accreditation guidelines, school committee policies, and legislative requirements Maintain effective public communication. In addition to these shared responsibilities, the Deputy Principal takes on the following responsibilities: * Collaborates with Curriculum Directors to coordinate the work of Instructional Coaches, and other building-based teacher leaders. * Collaborates with the Principal as they work with stakeholders annually to revise or develop, plan, and implement school programs and activities in accordance with district goals and objectives. * Collaborates with the Principal as they coordinate protocols to ensure the safety of staff and students throughout the day including lunch, passing periods, assemblies, concerts, dances, and sports events; assign supervisory faculty for all student activities. * Collaborates with the Director of School Counseling and the Curriculum Directors with the annual creation of student and teacher schedules; adjust schedule to meet school, students, and staff needs. * Collaborate with school-based teams and/or other Directors to plan community events centered on Curriculum and Instruction. * Assist the NEASC team in coordinating site visits, interviews, etc. * Support and guide Assistant Principals in the management of supervision and evaluation. Schedule and Compensation The Deputy Principal Position is full time, scheduled to work throughout the 12 month year, and is not subject to collective bargaining. It offers a generous benefits package and salary commensurate with experience. Qualifications * Master's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university. * MA DESE licensure Required: Principal/Assistant Principal License. * At least five years of satisfactory, full-time paid experience as a professional public or private school educator. * Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with diverse students, family members, colleagues, and community stakeholders, including excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. * Proficiency in Spanish preferred. * Strong leadership skills and deep commitment to removing barriers and providing access for all students. * Demonstrated commitment to educational equity and culturally responsive practices. * Experience with federal and state education regulations and compliance; ability to monitor and ensure that all functions are consistent with DESE regulations, district vision, goals and policies. * Knowledge of current trends in urban education including most up to date curriculum frameworks * Experience working with urban high school students. * Knowledge of research-based instruction and assessment practices. * Excellent computer/technology skills with ability to learn new student information systems.
