Principle Mechanical Engineer
Role: Principal Mechanical EngineerPosition SummaryGlobal clean energy company is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to serve as the lead technical authority for mechanical design and system integration across a growing portfolio of production facilities. Scope includes hydrogen generation, compression, liquefaction, storage, dispensing, and emerging technologies such as green methanol, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), renewable diesel, and other clean fuels.This individual will hold full lifecycle responsibility for mechanical engineering on new facilities and major capital projects worldwide, driving design standards, equipment strategy, balance-of-plant integration, and overall plant performance related to safety, reliability, efficiency, and cost. The role partners closely with Process Engineering, Manufacturing, Procurement, Project Management, and Operations teams to optimize current assets and scale future facilities.Core ResponsibilitiesSupport project teams, EPC contractors, and equipment vendors in the design and execution of new facilities.Develop mechanical engineering standards, specifications, and equipment design criteria.Review and approve mechanical engineering deliverables for capital projects and operating sites.Evaluate vendor proposals and provide technical recommendations during bid processes.Participate in shop inspections, FATs, and testing of rotating equipment and auxiliary systems.Lead resolution of technical design issues balancing cost, schedule, and quality.Oversee specification, selection, procurement, testing, and installation of rotating and packaged equipment.Provide commissioning, startup, and operational support during project handover.Collaborate cross-functionally to deliver technical and commercial project objectives.Interpret and apply P&IDs, process data, and engineering documentation.Represent the company professionally with internal and external stakeholders.Required BackgroundBachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required; Master’s preferred.10+ years of relevant mechanical engineering experience in industrial process facilities.Prior experience with gas processing, cryogenic, or low-temperature systems.Strong experience specifying compressors, expanders, pumps, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, tanks, liquefaction systems, dryer packages, and piping systems.Experience witnessing vendor performance testing and interpreting mechanical test data.Deep knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards (API, ASME, NFPA).Strong understanding of rotating and static equipment procurement processes.Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage multiple priorities.Ability to travel up to 15%.Preferred ExperienceLarge-scale industrial construction projects with 6–18 month execution timelines.Experience in hydrogen, gasification, methanol, aviation fuel, or other clean energy processes.Balance-of-plant engineering experience for greenfield facility builds.Prior mentoring or leadership of junior mechanical engineers.Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
