Supplier Reliability Engineer (Electronics Components)

Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Supplier Warranty Engineer to support the Supplier Warranty Partnership Program for an automotive organization in Normal, Illinois.The Supplier Warranty Engineer will be responsible for analyzing supplier-related warranty and field-performance data, identifying recurring component and vehicle issues, supporting supplier corrective actions, and driving continuous improvement to reduce warranty claims and associated costs.This is a technical and data-driven engineering role that requires strong experience in automotive warranty, supplier quality, statistical analysis, and problem solving.The engineer will work closely with Supplier Quality, Product Engineering, Manufacturing, Service, Warranty, Data/Analytics teams, and external suppliers to investigate warranty concerns and ensure effective corrective actions.Key ResponsibilitiesSupport all technical aspects of the Supplier Warranty Partnership Program.Analyze automotive warranty claims, field data, parts-return data, service data, and supplier performance information.Identify trends, recurring failures, abnormal warranty patterns, and potential supplier-related issues.Conduct technical deep dives into vehicle, component, and service-center issues.Work closely with Supplier Quality Engineers and suppliers to investigate warranty concerns.Drive supplier corrective actions through the WARSCAR (Warranty Supplier Corrective Action Request) process.Review supplier root-cause analysis, containment, corrective actions, and supporting evidence.Monitor corrective-action effectiveness using warranty and field-performance data.Support the development and monitoring of Supplier Warranty KPIs.Generate regular supplier warranty reports and dashboards.Use analytics and visualization tools such as Hex and Databricks to analyze warranty data and identify trends.Work with data teams to define data requirements and improve the availability and quality of warranty information.Conduct statistical analysis to identify opportunities for warranty cost reduction and product improvement.Coordinate with internal stakeholders to gather relevant technical and warranty information.Communicate with suppliers regarding warranty performance, technical concerns, data discrepancies, and corrective actions.Maintain accurate documentation related to supplier warranty agreements, claims, corrective actions, and performance metrics.Collaborate with technicians, engineers, customer service representatives, manufacturing teams, and other cross-functional stakeholders.Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on vehicle and component quality, reliability, and warranty performance.Required QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.4+ years of experience in automotive supplier warranty, supplier quality, warranty engineering, field quality, reliability, or a closely related function.Strong experience working with automotive warranty and field-performance data.Strong statistical analysis and problem-solving skills.Experience with supplier corrective-action processes.Knowledge of root-cause analysis and structured problem-solving methodologies.Ability to analyze large datasets and translate data into actionable engineering conclusions.Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.Experience working directly with automotive suppliers and cross-functional engineering teams.Ability to manage multiple projects and technical issues simultaneously.Preferred QualificationsMaster’s degree in Engineering, Data Analytics, Statistics, or a related discipline.Experience with Databricks and/or Hex.Experience with JIRA or similar project-management tools.Knowledge of AIAG, VDA, APQP, PPAP, FMEA, 8D, SPC, and related automotive quality methodologies.Experience with warranty claims, parts-return analysis, failure analysis, and warranty cost reduction.Experience developing supplier performance dashboards and KPIs.Automotive OEM or Tier-1 supplier experience.
