Requisition ID: 48206Work Location:Public Works - Dam Neck facilityPay Range:G.26, $59,862.40 - $92,788.80Starting Salary:Depending upon QualificationsWork Schedule:Monday - Thursday 6:30a - 5:00pPart Time Hours/Wk:Job Open Date:1/13/26Application Deadline:Job Duties:The City of Virginia Beach Public Works-Traffic Management Operations is currently hiring a Traffic Signal Electronics Supervisor.Please come join our team if you are interested in a challenging career working with a dedicated team of professionals serving the city that consistently ranks as one of the best places to live.Duties:Direct Signal Electronics Shop staff in the installation, modification, maintenance, and implementation of traffic signals and other electronic traffic management equipment.Plan, coordinate, and oversee semi-annual preventive maintenance inspection programs for traffic signal equipment and annual inspection programs for other electronic traffic control devices.Provide the Traffic Operations Bureau Head with information necessary to forecast, monitor, and maintain adequate material and equipment inventory levels to support both planned and emergency work.Supervise and coordinate emergency response activities for signal electronics technicians assigned to stand-by rotations.Train Signal Construction Shop staff and provide ongoing technical guidance and support.Assist Traffic Operations Bureau Head with budget planning and resource allocation for Traffic Signal Electronics operations.Assist the Traffic Operations Bureau Head in researching and evaluating materials, equipment, and methods to reduce costs, improve productivity and efficiency, and ensure the best use of materials and equipment that meets or exceeds established performance standards for signal electronics and incident management systems.Coordinate with Signs and Special Events staff to support the planning and implementation of special events as needed.Perform other duties requiring similar skills, knowledge, and physical requirements as assigned.Individual work assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on the current workloads and department needs.**This position is ALPHA 1 and is required to work more than their normally scheduled days/hours during all inclement weather (flooding, hurricanes & snow), and/or in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies ****** CDL preferred; however, not required, candidates who possess a valid CDL will qualify for a $2,000 incentive (stipend or bonus)This position will remain open until filled. This position may require that incumbents to wear and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment such as, but not limited to, steel toed shoes, hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, or other safety attire and equipment in designated areas of risk. Specific requirements will be determined and communicated by the employees supervisor based on position assigned.Additional Requirements:DMV Transcript: RequiredCDL: Not RequiredDOT History: Not RequiredCPS Check: Not RequiredPhysical: Not RequiredRespirator: Not RequiredPolygraph Review: Not RequiredPsychological Screening: Not RequiredAttachments Required:Preferences:• Knowledge of traffic engineering principles and practices related to traffic signals, dynamic message signs, Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS), and other electronic traffic control devices.• Knowledge and experience installing, operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, analyzing, and repairing traffic signals, ATMS, and related electronic traffic control equipment, including required materials, equipment, and personnel.• Knowledge and understanding of signal plans, phases and phasing diagrams, shop drawings, wiring diagrams, and other critical components of traffic signal design and construction.• Knowledge of standard practices, tools, terminology, and theory associated with the electrical and electronics trades, particularly as applied to modern traffic signal systems.• Experience with electrical and electronic hardware and software used in traffic control systems.• Proficiency with computer applications and data management systems, including work management databases (e.g., Hansen/Cartegraph), spreadsheets, traffic signal inventories, and performance standards.• Experience in traffic signal construction and senior-level electronic traffic signal work, including the ability to install, repair, and maintain traffic signal systems.• Supervisory experience, including staff management, planning, scheduling, training, and oversight of work activities.• Ability to safely operate hand tools and heavy equipment and to train staff in their proper use.• Possession of a Master Electrician or Journeyman Electrician license is preferred.• Intermediate Traffic Control certification and IMSA Level 3 certification are preferred.Special Instructions:Please complete the application in its entirety and include your resume if required by the posting.Your responses to any "Supplemental Questions", if attached to this requisition, must be supported by the information you provide on your application and/or resume; or otherwise demonstrated during the hiring process.You will not be able to access the details of this job ad once the closing date has passed.
