Job Title: Biologist - NGSLocation: Indianapolis, IN Duration: 6+ Months Interview Type: In-person onlyPay Rate $31/hr on 1099 all inclusive Position OverviewWe are seeking a skilled Microbiologist to support laboratory operations within an Enteric and Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) Lab. This role involves performing a wide range of microbiological and molecular analyses on clinical specimens for the detection and identification of enteric pathogens. The ideal candidate will have hands-on laboratory experience, strong analytical skills, and familiarity with molecular biology techniques.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform microbiological testing and analysis, including culture, biochemical testing, EIA, serotyping, PCR, and whole genome sequencing (WGS)Isolate and identify enteric pathogens such as Salmonella, E. coli, Shigella, Vibrio, Listeria, and CampylobacterConduct nucleic acid extraction using manual and automated methodsUtilize molecular techniques such as PCR, sequencing, MALDI-TOF, and WGSFollow established procedures for specimen handling, processing, testing, and reportingAnalyze, interpret, and validate laboratory resultsMaintain accurate laboratory records and documentation in compliance with CLIA regulationsPerform quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) activities and document findingsMonitor laboratory inventory and order supplies as neededAssist in preparing epidemiological and statistical reportsParticipate in proficiency testing programs and maintain competency in all assigned areasIdentify issues affecting test performance and take corrective actions or escalate as neededCollaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders, including public health entitiesQualificationsBachelor’s degree in Biology, Microbiology, or a related scientific field (required)Minimum 2 years of laboratory experience (highly preferred)Experience in a molecular biology lab (preferred)Strong knowledge of microbiology principles, laboratory techniques, and safety practicesFamiliarity with CLIA regulations and high-complexity testing standardsAbility to operate complex laboratory equipment and scientific instrumentationStrong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skillsEffective written and verbal communication skillsWork Environment & ConditionsWork involves handling potentially hazardous biological specimensStrict adherence to laboratory safety protocols and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is requiredLaboratory conditions may include variable temperatures and physically demanding tasks requiring precision and focusAdditional InformationThis role requires independent work with minimal supervision while maintaining high accuracyCandidates must be able to work onsite in Indianapolis, INOnly candidates authorized to work in the U.S. will be considered
