| North DakotaJOB SUMMARYWe are seeking a motivated and hardworking individual to join our team in North Dakota as an Electrical Design Engineer - Power Electronics & Thermal Systems. You will be part of a group of engineers dedicated to high-quality work, value-add solutions, skill development, and career growth. This role follows a hybrid schedule and requires travel to Faribault, MN as needed. Candidates must reside within a 4–5 hour driving distance of Faribault or near a major airport such as Fargo or Bismarck.Employees working in North Dakota will enjoy professional growth and community engagement through our regional presence in Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota and South Dakota.As an Electrical Design Engineer - Power Electronics & Thermal Systems, you will:Drive cost savings, margin improvement, and design enhancements across electrical systems and product linesPerform electrical design, modeling, and analysis for new products and existing electrical assembliesApply power conversion theory to optimize system performance, reliability, and efficiencyDesign and analyze power‑electronics systems, including IGBT‑based topologies and high‑frequency switching architecturesDevelop and optimize high‑frequency busbar designs, including skin‑effect considerations, materials selection, and topology improvementsSupport research, development, and engineering initiatives, including concept development and early‑stage electrical designConduct CFD/CFX analysis to evaluate electronics cooling, airflow, and thermal performanceDesign and validate electronics cooling strategies and thermal‑management solutions for high‑power assembliesContribute to sustaining engineering activities such as cost‑reduction projects and engineering change requestsParticipate in continuous improvement efforts that strengthen product quality, reduce variation, and streamline electrical assembly processesCollaborate closely with suppliers and internal engineering partners to resolve design challenges and improve manufacturabilityWork collaboratively with suppliers and Applied partnersContribute to projects that impact communities in Northfield, Owatonna, Dundas, Medford, Lakeville, Farmington, Waseca, and Lonsdale, and the greater southern Twin Cities metroApply your skills in a dynamic environment that values ownership and innovationQUALIFICATIONSBachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering required4+ years of electrical engineering experienceExperience with electrical design, modeling, and documentationKnowledge of power conversion theory and high‑power electrical systemsExperience with power electronics, including IGBT‑based systems and high‑frequency switching architecturesExperience designing or analyzing high‑frequency busbars, including skin‑effect considerations, materials, and topology optimizationExperience with CFD/CFX analysis for electronics cooling and thermal‑management applicationsFamiliarity with sustaining engineering, cost‑reduction initiatives, and ECR processesAbility to identify and execute design improvements that support cost, quality, and performance goalsStrong analytical skills and problem‑solving abilitiesExperience with electrical modeling or simulation tools (CAD, analysis, or circuit modeling platforms) preferredCapable of working independently and as a team memberStrong work ethic and unwavering integrityExcellent interpersonal skills and a learning mindsetCuriosity, problem solving, and analytical thinkingEffective verbal and written communicationDesire to work on a variety of projectsESTIMATED PAY RANGEEngineer I: $40.45–$46.52/hourEngineer II: $44.14–$50.76/hourEngineer III: $47.83–$55.00/hourSenior Engineer: $51.51–$59.24/hourFinal compensation is based on experience, skills, and alignment with role expectations.
