General Manager, Solid Waste Management

Position Summary The General Manager will oversee the daily operations of solid waste management, including collection, transportation, and disposal services, by establishing and tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) and productivity targets, and ensuring effective cost management, while upholding the company’s commitment to Safety, Reliability, and Environmental Responsibility. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Manage and optimize daily operations of solid waste management, ensuring high operational standards are met. Oversee staffing levels, focusing on safety, hiring, training, and performance management of all operational employees, including project managers, drivers, mechanics, and dispatchers. Engage with customers to address service concerns and ensure compliance with all regulatory standards. Attend meeting with customers, vendors, and local municipalities. Enhance productivity through effective management of commercial, front-load, roll-off, and tote routes. Monitor adherence to operational standards and develop supervisory goals to manage labor hours and disposal expenses efficiently. Implement and maintain a robust safety program to minimize losses and enhance workplace safety. Provide leadership through coaching and training, ensuring project managers can interpret productivity and performance reports. Collaborate with other department managers to secure the company’s long-term success. Manage the operations budget, including approving expenses, purchase orders, and employee payroll. Foster positive relationships between management and operational staff. Qualifications College degree with 10+ years of experience in the solid waste industry. Strong knowledge of DOT regulations, OSHA safety protocols, and refuse collection practices. Strong communication skills for effective interaction across various organizational levels as well as with customers and vendors. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities. Motivational leadership and coaching skills. Compliance with regulatory requirements for operating trucks and equipment. Leadership experience Experience in operations, customer service, community relations, health and safety, financial management, and human resources, with a focus on supervision and safety program implementation.
