Ford Mobile Field Service Technician
Position SummaryThe Field Systems Engineer (FSE) is a fully self‐directed, customer‐focused role responsible for attending to service needs of bioMerieux customers within their assigned geographic territory and nationally, on an as‐needed basis. The FSE uses appropriate tools and test equipment, works remotely without direct supervision, and may conduct overnight travel on short notice. Typical weekday travel involves daily customer visits with more than 50 % driving time; weekend and holiday coverage may include additional driving or flying. The role partners with Clinicians, Scientists, Technicians, Biomedical Engineers, and Lab Leadership to optimize the performance of bioMerieux's diverse product portfolio.Primary DutiesTerritory Management (60%)Respond promptly to customer needs and perform installations, maintenance, upgrades, and repairs using electronic and computer skills to meet instrument specifications.Build trust with customers, promote service agreements, and identify sales opportunities for cross‐functional teams.Foster teamwork across service and support teams while driving field service revenue through billable offerings such as preventive maintenance and equipment moves.Travel & On‐Call (10%)Attend 6–9 weeks of product training at Durham, NC or St. Louis, MO within the first year; future trainings occur as needed.Travel includes both scheduled and unscheduled visits, with increased overnight stays for wide territories and occasional national travel.Participate in weekend/holiday on‐call rotation (~every 5 weeks), requiring local phone availability and potential national travel.Administrative Responsibilities (20%)Complete service work orders, QA checklists, and internal training requirements in a timely and accurate manner.Maintain an up‐to‐date calendar of availability and submit travel expense reports regularly.Follow all company policies related to the use and upkeep of the assigned fleet vehicle.Other Related Duties (10%)Maintain spare parts inventory, company‐issued vehicle, and all assigned equipment (e.g., laptop, tools, test devices) in good condition per policy.Continuously improve technical and interpersonal skills, meet annual priorities, and collaborate with sales and applications teams to enhance customer experience.Represent bioMerieux professionally, support trade shows as needed, and provide feedback to Sales, Marketing, and Customer Service to expand service capabilities.Perform all work in compliance with company quality procedures and standards.Perform other duties as assigned.QualificationsEducation and TrainingBachelor's degree in Engineering, Electronic Technology, Computer Science, Biomedical or related discipline.4 years related experience, including military experience, may substitute for a bachelor's degree.Hold a valid driver's license in the state of residence.Experience2+ years of related experience with a degree in complex electro‐mechanical, electronic, computer, or electrical fields.6+ years of related experience in lieu of a degree in the same fields.Experience troubleshooting and/or repairing biomedical, mechanical, electrical, vacuum systems, or similar systems strongly preferred.Experience operating independently, managing schedules, customer expectations, and communications, prioritizing tasks, and resolving technical issues without direct oversight preferred.Experience in a field service role preferred.Experience with host/remote communications and network systems preferred.Experience in the principles and practices of laboratory operations preferred.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesCritical thinking, adaptability, time management, communication, problem‐solving, and digital literacy.Technical skills with mastery level commensurate to the job level, marked by specialization and innovation.Rapid learning aptitude to quickly acquire new technical knowledge and skills.Flexibility and resilience to thrive in a dynamic work environment.Strong organizational and multitasking abilities to maintain productivity in a fast‐paced environment.Detail orientation to produce high‐quality work.Assertiveness, confidence, and solution orientation in challenging situations.Ability to cooperate with colleagues and leadership at all levels.Strong written communication skills and the ability to convey technical data.Commitment to inclusiveness, teamwork, and a culture of continuous improvement.Consistency in upholding core ethical principles and values of bioMerieux.Professional composure and emotional intelligence in high‐pressure or stressful situations.Working Conditions and Physical RequirementsAbility to remain in a stationary position, often standing, for prolonged periods.Ability to ascend/descend stairs, ladders, ramps, and similar structures.Ability to wear PPE correctly most of the day.Ability to operate heavy machinery and move objects up to 50 pounds in all directions.Domestic travel required up to 90 % of the time.Compensation & BenefitsThe estimated wage range for this role in Florida is between $33.90 and $46.40 per hour.
