Job Title: RN - PCU Profession: RN Specialty: PCU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12hr Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 18 months of PCU experience License: RN license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS required Must-Have: Experience with various patient conditions, including tracheostomy and ventilated patients Description: The position is for a Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU). The unit contains 36 beds with an average census of 36 patients. Common patient types include those with COPD, heart failure, cardiac arrhythmias, renal failure, sepsis, and those requiring respiratory support. Patient ratios are RN to patient at 1:3-4 and CNA to patient at 1:9. Skills required include experience with tracheostomies, temporary pacemakers, cardiac medications, cardiac rhythm interpretation, chest tubes, trach care, blood products, and wound care. Support within the department includes CNA patient care for activities of daily living and mobility. There is no receptionist, and case management is provided by two staff members per unit. Clinical support is available 24/7, including respiratory therapy, a dedicated pharmacist, and a nurse educator. Virtual nursing assists with admissions, discharges, and observation of patients. Floating is required within the designated region and scope of practice as needed. Providers in the department include hospitalists, intensivists, and critical care staff.
