We encourage you to review the job postings below and to contact us for additional information.Department: Lower SchoolLocation: Bethesda, MDPosition Start Date: 2026/2027 SYStatus: Full-TimeSidwell Friends School, a coeducational Quaker day school, seeks a dynamic, collaborative, and student-centered Fourth Grade Classroom Teacher to join its Lower School faculty for the 2026–2027 school year.The successful candidate will co-lead a homeroom of 22–24 students with a teaching partner, sharing responsibility for all areas of instruction. As a member of a six-person fourth-grade teaching team, this educator will help shape a vibrant program grounded in academic rigor, joyful discovery, and deep respect for each child's inherent worth and unique learning journey.Our Lower School program is rooted in the Quaker belief in the Inner Light of each person. We strive to create joyful, rigorous learning environments where students feel known, challenged, and supported as learners and community members. Quaker values—such as integrity, reflection, community, and respect for each person's Inner Light—inform all aspects of our work with children.Key ResponsibilitiesThe Fourth Grade Classroom Teacher will:Co-plan and co-teach reading, writing, mathematics, and social studiesCreate a student-centered, inclusive classroom environment that nurtures curiosity, critical thinking, and empathyDesign and implement differentiated instruction to support diverse learnersCollaborate closely with co-teachers and grade-level colleagues to design and refine curriculum and instructional practicesSupport students' social-emotional development using responsive and developmentally appropriate strategiesPartner thoughtfully and proactively with families to support student growthAssess and document student learning using a variety of formative and summative toolsParticipate fully in the life of the school, including Meetings for Worship, faculty meetings, duties, and school eventsSupport admissions and broader community life as appropriateAlign with or integrate key instructional approaches such as structured literacy, Illustrative Math, and Responsive ClassroomSidwell Friends is a highly collaborative professional environment, and classroom teachers work closely with colleagues to deliver an innovative, reflective, and developmentally responsive program.Qualifications and DispositionsRequired:Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or a related fieldMinimum of three years of successful elementary classroom teaching experienceDemonstrated success in co-teaching or team-based instructional environmentsStrong skills in differentiation and supporting diverse learnersCommitment to culturally responsive and inclusive teaching practicesDeep belief in a student-centered, whole-child approach to learningExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsPreferred:Master's degree in Education or related fieldExperience with structured literacy, Illustrative Math, and/or Responsive ClassroomFamiliarity with Quaker education and/or independent schoolsStrength in language arts and mathematics instructionSalary Range $62,096-$132,180.
