Director of Finance & Accounting
The HT Group has partnered with a growing law firm in West Houston in the search for a qualified Director of Finance & Accounting with previous law firm experience.Location: West Houston (onsite 5 days/week)Compensation: $185,000 - $195,000 base + bonus/solid benefitsPosition OverviewThis individual will be the most high-ranking finance/accounting role in the firm and is responsible for leading all accounting operations, financial reporting, cash flow management, and performance analysis. This role partners closely with senior leadership to drive financial strategy, support decision-making, and ensure operational efficiency. The position oversees billing and accounting functions, manages external relationships, and builds scalable processes while developing a high-performing finance team.Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Leadership & OperationsOversee accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, billing, and collectionsManage firm-wide cash flow, liquidity, and banking relationshipsAdminister partner distributions and financial policiesEnsure strong internal controls, compliance, and risk managementReporting, Planning & AnalysisLead budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planningDeliver financial reporting, profitability analysis, and performance insights to leadershipEstablish and track KPIs related to production, billing, and collectionsProvide actionable recommendations to improve financial performanceBilling, Collections & Revenue CycleOversee timekeeping, billing accuracy, and collections strategyOptimize cash realization and reduce aged receivablesEnsure compliance with billing policies and client requirementsAudit, Tax & External RelationshipsServe as primary liaison with external accountants for audits, tax filings, and financial reviewsOversee insurance programs and risk coverageManage relationships with banks, advisors, and key vendorsTeam Leadership & Process ImprovementLead, mentor, and develop the accounting and billing teamImplement scalable systems, processes, and continuous improvement initiativesPartner cross-functionally with leadership and stakeholders across the organizationQualificationsBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (advanced degree preferred)7+ years of progressive accounting experience within a professional services environment (law firm experience highly preferred)Strong understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, and cash flow managementExperience overseeing billing and collections processesProven leadership and team development experienceKey CompetenciesStrategic thinker with strong business and financial acumenExcellent communication and stakeholder management skillsProactive, hands-on leader with strong problem-solving abilitiesHigh level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detailAbility to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environmentCollaborative and adaptable, with a focus on continuous improvement
