Job TitleDirector, AthleticsAgencyTexas A&M International UniversityDepartmentAthletics DepartmentProposed Minimum SalaryCommensurateJob LocationLaredo, TexasJob TypeStaffJob DescriptionJob SummaryThe Director of Athletics, reporting directly to the President, is responsible for the daily operation and oversight of the University's 11-team intercollegiate athletic program, as well as management of all aspects of the Athletics Department.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesEstablish and oversee long-range goals and strategic planning and implement policies and procedures to support these goals and plans.Ensure strict adherence to all NCAA by-laws, Lone Star Conference regulations, and institutional compliance rules, policies and procedures, as well as ethical standards of behavior.Manage all administrative work related to NCAA Division II membership.Ensure satisfactory academic performance of student-athletes along with the physical, emotional, and social welfare of student-athletes.Establish and ensure a safe environment for student-athletes which includes providing education about and methods for discussing and resolving harassment, hazing, or discrimination.Hire, train, evaluate, and supervise department staff and coaches.Develop annual departmental budget and maintain budgetary controls to ensure adherence to budget including approving all travel and expenditures by coaches and teams.Coordinate dissemination of information regarding all athletic activities to media, University community, and community at large.Represent University at local, regional, and national level on athletic matters.Manage the accurate submission of requisitions, the payment of invoices, and the collection of payments (as applicable) as required by System and TAMIU policies and procedures.Responsible for implementing and complying with System policy pertaining to the department.This position reports directly to the President and works closely with the VP for Enrollment Management and the VP for Student Engagement.Implement strong community support programs, engage in community outreach and relationship building, and actively participate in coordination of all fundraising efforts for the Athletics Department with Office of Institutional Advancement.Oversee camp offerings by coaches to ensure adherence to all camps and programs for minors regulations.Perform other related duties as assigned.This document represents the major duties, responsibilities, and authorities of this job, and is not intended to be a complete list of all tasks and functions. Other duties may be assigned.Minimum RequirementsEducation - Master's degree in a related field.Experience - Ten or more years' experience in athletics, intercollegiate, and/or NCAA athletics administration; fundraising; and collegiate coaching.Knowledge and AbilitiesKnowledge of:Must possess superior and written communications skills.Must possess strong organizational, fiscal, management, and leadership skills.Ability to:Proven ability to fundraise. Must possess strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively and professionally with the University community, community at large, and media.Must possess a commitment to student learning and success as well as a dedication to students' growth, development, innovation, and improvement.Must possess sensitivity to students' academic, socio. economic, physical/learning disabilities.Must possess commitment and capabilities to abide by NCAA by-laws and Lone Star Conference regulations.Must possess a vision for the enhancement of athletics program.Plan and organize work, as well as attention to detail.Multitask, prioritize, and work with deadlines.Maintain confidentiality.Supervise and lead.License/Professional Certification -None.Physical Requirement - General Office Environment.The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
