Planner

Akerman is seeking a Planner for its Miami office. Working with the firm's Land Use & Zoning Practice Group (the "Group"), the successful candidate will have strong attention to detail and excellent verbal/written communication skills. Under the direct supervision of attorneys, the incumbent will assist and support all aspects of filing applications for various land development applications and zoning approvals in a variety of jurisdictions across the South Florida region. The ability to maintain an accurate filing system, work on several projects or issues simultaneously, manage time and tasks in a productive team environment are essential to the success of this role. Akerman has adopted a hybrid work environment.
Key Responsibilities
Preparing and filing applications for land development approvals and zoning actions across South Florida jurisdictions
Preparing materials for public hearings, including maps, images, charts, and tables
Monitoring and compiling weekly public hearing agendas
Maintaining and filing lobbyist registration forms
Performing on-demand tasks outside the office on short notice, such as delivering documents to municipal and county offices throughout the greater downtown area and, as needed, county-wide
Maintaining and organizing the firm's Land Use electronic library and key documents
Filing materials with local jurisdictions on behalf of the Group's attorneys
Conducting basic due diligence, including pulling property appraiser folios, retrieving land development and zoning regulations from government websites, and navigating various GIS systems
Assisting with research and coordination with government agencies on land use and regulatory matters
Preparing PowerPoint presentations and graphics for written reports
Processing filing fees and related invoices for land use applications and submittals
Performing other related duties as assigned by the Practice Group
Qualifications
Experience working with the City of Miami, City of Miami Beach, Miami-Dade County, and other South Florida municipalities strongly preferred
Experience working with the Florida Building Code
Bachelor's degree in urban planning, architecture, or a related field preferred
AICP certification preferred, but not required
Valid Florida driver's license, reliable transportation, and the ability to commute as needed within South Florida
Strong organizational, time-management, and multitasking skills
