Organizational BackgroundHALOS, founded in 1997 and incorporated in 2003, is a growing nonprofit organization that serves grandparents, relatives and family friends who are raising children to keep them with family in the Lowcountry region of South Carolina. HALOS meets the needs of kinship families through a variety of supports, programming, and initiatives.Position SummaryThe Institutional Giving Manager (IGM) is a front-line fundraiser with expertise in nurturing partnerships and prospecting for grants and sponsorships. The IGM will secure funding from all institutional sources including foundations, corporations, faith communities, civic groups, and government agencies at the local, state and national level. The IGM is the primary grant researcher, grant writer, and grant project manager, coordinating with all internal and external stakeholders to ensure that HALOS’ grant funding is sustainable and responsibly managed. This position will also provide general support for fundraising via gift processing and donor database management. The ideal candidate will be an experienced philanthropy professional with a passion for nonprofit excellence.Essential Functions of PositionNote: These tasks are illustrative only; to carry out the day-to-day functions of the job, other duties may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.• Become thoroughly familiar with HALOS’ programs and services and communicate them in an engaging manner – both verbally and in writing – to donors and prospects• Strategically prioritize and nurture ongoing relationships with existing institutional donors• Conduct prospect research to identify new/future institutional funding prospects, evaluate organizational fit, and build relationships leading to successful funding proposals• Attend grant announcement meetings, respond to funding requests for proposals (RFPs), participate in open question periods, and follow pertinent legislation that leads to funding opportunities• Craft compelling grant and sponsorship proposals, letters of inquiry, reports and narratives for applications and manage the process of preparing and submitting all required documentation, including budgets and expense reports, to meet all donor and prospect deadlines• Work closely with program and finance colleagues on grant budgets and supporting materials for proposals, applications and reports• Coordinate site visits with institutional funder leadership and program officers• Seek and secure speaking engagements with institutional prospects and donors• Conduct regular meetings with in-kind drive supporters and grow the drive partner network• Maintain grant calendar to ensure compliance with funding requirements and sponsorship contracts• Use Raiser’s Edge to manage relationships, track grants received, reports due, pending proposals, and prospects• Represent HALOS and its programs in meetings, speaking engagements, site visits, and phone/Zoom conversations with institutional donors and prospects• Identify meaningful engagement opportunities with institutional donors• Develop activity and fundraising metrics with Director of Philanthropy• Act as Raiser’s Edge Administrator, including gift entry and processing, acknowledgment letters, reports and mailing lists, and pledge reminders• Assist at HALOS special events• Other tasks and duties reasonably related to job responsibilitiesQualificationsMinimum Qualifications• Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited university or college• Proven track record (7+ years) in relationship-building, donor cultivation and solicitation, and securing grant support from institutional funders• Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, an ability to listen to and balance, negotiate and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.• Strong attention to detail, and analytical and prospect-research skills• Ability to proactively seek out information and network internally to develop expertise about HALOS’ programs and services for prospective funders• Strong relationship-building skills; cultural competency, ability to work and communicate well with colleagues and partners• Excellent project management and organizational skills• Ability to manage multiple projects and shift priorities simultaneously while meeting internal and external grant and reporting deadlines• Demonstrated ability to work independently and part of a team• Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment as well as the stamina to remain seated and maintain concentration for an extended period of time• Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephoneDesirable Qualifications• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 tools• Knowledge of prospect research tools and databases• Experience with Raiser’s Edge• Knowledge of and/or lived experience with kinship care, foster care, and general child welfare systems
