We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Assistant Payroll/ HR to join our team in Woodland Hills, CA. The ideal candidate will assist the Payroll & Human Resource Accountant in managing employee benefits, compensation, and related tasks for our organization. Coming from a commercial construction background is a huge plus! Key Responsibilities:
Process weekly or biweekly payrolls, including garnishments, benefits, and taxes in compliance with federal and state wage and hour laws.
Ensure accurate and timely processing of new hires, temporary workers, transfers, promotions, and terminations.
Prepare and audit W-4s, payroll balance sheets, and YTD earnings.
Maintain and update payroll systems to reflect current employee information, including wages, benefits, and time off accruals for both union and non-union employees.
Generate regular management reports, including weekly, monthly, quarterly, and year-end reports on gross payroll, hours worked, vacation accruals, and deductions.
Manage payroll, insurance, and tax audits as needed.
Handle weekly payroll tax payments to state and federal agencies.
Prepare and file quarterly and yearly payroll tax returns with state and federal authorities.
Perform bank reconciliations.
Maintain employee benefits programs, assess benefit needs, and recommend improvements to management.
Ensure legal compliance with federal and state HR requirements and maintain accurate records.
Update and recommend HR policies and procedures.
Maintain organized and accessible HR records.
Assist in employee counseling, performance management, and resolution of employee relations issues.
Administer various benefits programs, including health insurance, pension plans, and leave policies.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
5+ years of experience in payroll processing and HR administration
Proficiency in payroll software and MS Office suite
Strong knowledge of federal and state wage and hour laws
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
