Barista
Position Description
The Barista provides excellent customer service with prompt drink preparation and quality beverages and products in a clean and comfortable store environment.
Major Areas of Responsibility
Preparation of all hot and cold beverages, such as coffee, espresso drinks, teas, iced tea, and cold brew coffee, including house-made coffee flavorings; must possess great attention to detail in order to follow recipes and procedures
Oversee and execute the timely fulfillment of drink orders and ensure that other items (food, pastries, etc.) arrive to the customers
Anticipate store environment by constantly evaluating environment and customers for cues
Oversee and execute the overall cleanliness and orderly operation of coffee/bus station
Follow all operational policies and procedures, including those for cash handling and security to ensure the safety of all staff members during each shift
Follow health, safety and sanitation guidelines for all products
Job Tasks
Drink preparation
Brew coffee
Brew iced tea and chai tea concentrates
Make chocolate and caramel flavorings by hand
Dian in espresso machine and espresso grind
Pull espresso shots
Steam milk
Prepare complicated drink orders
Serve prepared pastries such as muffins, scones, and cookies
Communicate in a friendly and personable manner with clients
Maintain clean and sanitized work area, utensils, and equipment
Washing and sanitizing drip trays, pitchers, utensils, and small equipment
Disassembling, cleaning, and reassembling various equipment parts
Soaking espresso machine parts in a soap bath, including espresso baskets, blind baskets, and portafilters
Back flushing the espresso machine during and after service hours
Scrubbing the group heads
Run drinks and foods out to tables
Bus and clean tables
Receive payments on the point of sales system
Describe food and drink menu items and offerings to customers or suggest products that might appeal to them
Order, receive, stock supplies or retail products
Tidy and stock customer service stations with paper products or beverage preparation items
Weigh, grind, or pack coffee beans for customers
Wrap, label, box or date items for sale
Operate retail equipment such a coffee brewer, grinders, and espresso machine
Set up or restock product displays
Maintain regular attendance and punctuality
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to remain calm in a busy and high-stress service environment
Excellent personal skills and customer relations
Honesty and integrity, especially with regard to cash handling
Ability to work as a team
Ability to execute multiple orders at one time while maintaining consistency and high standards
Food Handler’s Certification required, which can be obtained within the first 30 days of employment
Experience working as a counter staff/cashier a plus
Ability to communicate in and understand English
Physical Requirements
Constant standing/walking
Occasional stooping, kneeling or crawling
Occasional pushing, pulling, lifting or carrying up to 40 lbs
Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs, ramps
Constant computer/POS Register and bar equipment usage
Frequent, continual, intermittent flexing or rotation of the wrist(s) and spine
Constant reaching, turning, and performing precision work around POS station
Constant receiving detailed information through oral communication
Constant talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word
Frequent distinguishing, with a degree of accuracy, differences or similarities in intensity or quality of flavors and/or odors
Constant clarity of vision at near and/or far distances
Work Environment
Loud busy work environment with temperature changes
Frequent contact with hot plates, pots, pans and sharp equipment (knives) that may burn, scald, or cut if carried or used improperly
Schedule
Part time or full time work, must be available to work weekends and holidays
