Assistant Coach Middle School Outdoor Track & Field

To carry out the aims of Girard College's Athletic Program. Supervise athletes and reports to varsity coach.Primary Responsibilities:Assist varsity coach in carrying out his/her responsibilities.Keep abreast of new knowledge, innovative ideas, and techniques in coaching.Assist varsity coach in making a systematic issuance of school equipment.Assist varsity coach in implementing "Athletic Standards"Assume responsibility for constant care for equipment and facilities being used.Assume supervisory control over all athletes in the program when such is needed.To be in regular attendance at practice sessions and all junior varsity contest.Apply discipline in a firm and positive manner.Conduct him/herself and his/her team in an ethical manner during practice and contestsAssist in the return and inventory of school equipment.Recommend facility maintenance and improvements.Offer evidence of valid drivers' license and assume responsibility of using school van to transport athletes.Program ResponsibilitiesAssist in the coordination of all programs, including Middle School and Junior Varsity teamsAssign all duties of assistant coaches working under his/her supervisionAttend all mandatory coaches meetings held by the P.I.A.A., Penn-JerseyRecommend purchase of equipment, supplies, and uniforms as need demandsMaintain accurate inventory/records of the equipment a report at the end of each season to Athletic DirectorSubmit the following to the director:An alphabetical squad roster as soon as the squad is setAthletic ContractsAuthorization To Treat A Minor formStudent Athletic Eligibility FormUniform Assignment RecordReport and accurate scores promptly to the local mediaPersonal ResponsibilitiesEnforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times, and establishes and oversees penalties for breach of such standards by individual studentsDetermines the system of play to be usedExercise good judgment in protecting positive coaching behavior. Maintains (teams)proper conduct during practice and traveling, as well as playingEnsure that no athlete is permitted to participate until all appropriate "check-out" procedures have been completed.Clean and refuel vans as neededPick up bag lunches/dinner from Dining ServicesQualifications:Possess working knowledge of all aspects of the sport and/or professional coaching experience or other related experience.The candidate must have completed the PIAA coaching education requirements at the time of hire.Outstanding interpersonal skills and willing to work with students.Demonstrates interest in and an aptitude for performing tasks listed:HoursIn Season - The season lasts 8 to 10 weeks but could go to 12 weeks if the team makes the playoffs. Coaches are expected to be available for two hours per day Monday - Friday for practice (approximately 8 hours per week.). In addition, Coaches are required to attend all home and away games.Off Season - Coaches - Coaches may hold practices during the off season with prior approval from the Athletic Director.End of SeasonArrange for the systematic return of all school equipment and hold the athlete responsible for equipment not returned.
