POSITION SUMMARYThis position is an expert craftsman in the automotive field.Most job responsibilities requireprevious experience on equipment and similar work procedures.Employees in this classificationwork from general instructions and will have some responsibility for ordering tasks and determiningwhat procedures to apply.Employees may encounter some new situations requiring new solutions.The employee is responsible for following established safety practices while performing assignedduties to protect self, co-workers and the public from personal injury and to prevent damage toAuthority property.This position is a bargaining unit position that is represented by InternationalUnion of Operating engineers, Local 542.II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES* Provides expert level maintenance support in relevant craft field (e.g., fleet vehicles--cars,light trucks and diesel vehicles, etc., fleet equipment, HVAC, electrical, carpentry,electronics, marine vessels, also helpful)Troubleshoots the most complex problems and issuesProvides primary expertise on projects and tasks (such as scope and project budgeting)Conducts preventative maintenanceEmergency response (24/7) to any Authority locationMay be responsible for directing and inspecting work of assigned personnelDevelops and maintains various fleet mechanic maintenance programs and protocols relatedto Authority assets, equipment and facilities* Ability to provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers* Ability to perform other assigned duties as requiredIII. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESExpert level knowledge of the automotive fieldFull understanding of relevant Authority policies and proceduresKnowledge of all relevant federal, state and local, and Authority safety regulations andprocedures* Knowledge of state laws pertaining to the operation of motor vehicles on publicRoadwaysComplies with all requirements of Federal Drug & Alcohol Testing Program at all timesAbility to lead work crew, coach employees and provide on-the-job trainingIn order to be classified at this level, individuals must be recognized as fully competent basedon external accreditation and certification in addition to his/her licenseAbility to work independently on complex automotive/diesel systems diagnosis and repairKnowledge of procurement proceduresAbility to read and interpret construction drawings, wiring diagrams and specificationsAbility to read work orders and translate them to work plansMust be capable of lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds at least 20 yardsMust be capable of performing around hazardous situations such as moving heavyequipment, in and around equipment, at heights, on steep grades, and on ladders and unevensurfaces* Must be capable of wearing appropriate personal protection equipment such as hard hats,protective shoes and clothing, aprons, gloves, eye wear, hearing protection and respirators* Must be capable of performing repetitive motions such as grasping, reaching, bending,lifting, twisting, pushing, pulling and climbing* Must be willing and available for duty at such hours, day or night, as may be required inorder to maintain continuous operation of this facility* Ability to work in a variety of adverse weather conditions including extreme heat or coldand/or emergency conditionsEffective and written communications skills (including listening skills)Strong interpersonal and relational skills with the ability to establish and maintain effectiveprofessional relationships with Authority personnel and external to customers, vendors, etc.;provides the highest level of customer service and professionalism to all internal and externalcustomers* Ability to perform other assigned duties as requiredIV. LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, AND CERTIFICATESValid driver's licenseMust obtain a Class A CDL with tanker endorsement within six (6) monthsAppropriate license or certification in craft field, e.g. ASE or other automotive/dieselmechanic licensure/certificationVII.
