Summary/Objective
FMRT operates a mission-critical custom software platform that supports nearly every aspect of the business, including applicant scheduling, workflow management, reporting, client communication, billing, and operational automation.
The Associate Full Stack Software Developer supports the Full Stack Software Developer by developing new software functionality, resolving technical issues, maintaining system integrations, and increasing overall development capacity.
Working closely with the Full Stack Software Developer and Technical Product & Business Analyst, this role contributes to software development while developing the technical knowledge necessary to provide operational continuity, reduce key-person risk, and support FMRT's long-term software strategy.
This position may initially be engaged as a contract role with the opportunity to transition into a full-time employee based on organizational needs and performance.

Core Functions
Develop and maintain features within FMRT's custom software platform.
Support the Full Stack Software Developer by implementing software enhancements and resolving technical issues.
Support technical debt remediation, dependency management, and ongoing platform modernization.
Increase development capacity while reducing key-person risk.
Learn FMRT's software architecture, deployment processes, and third-party integrations.
Assist with software testing, documentation, deployments, and production support.
Contribute to continuous improvement of FMRT's software platform and development practices.
Provide technical support during planned and unplanned absences of the Full Stack Software Developer.

Application Development
Develop and maintain features within FMRT's Ruby on Rails application.
Develop backend logic, APIs, database queries, and frontend components.
Implement lower-to-medium complexity software enhancements.
Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve software defects.
Participate in peer code reviews.
Assist with refactoring existing code to improve maintainability and performance.
Platform Maintenance & Modernization
Identify and remediate technical debt in collaboration with the Full Stack Software Developer.
Perform routine framework, library, and dependency upgrades to maintain system security, stability, and compatibility.
Refactor legacy code to improve maintainability, performance, and reliability.
Assist with modernization of aging application components, development tools, and technical processes.
Identify outdated or unsupported technologies and help develop plans for their replacement or upgrade.
Expand automated testing to support safer upgrades, refactoring, and future development.
Document modernization work, technical risks, and recommended improvements.
Software Maintenance & Production Support
Monitor application performance and troubleshoot production issues.
Assist with software deployments and release activities.
Maintain and improve third-party integrations.
Support data validation, troubleshooting, and system maintenance.
Maintain technical documentation.
System Knowledge & Business Continuity
Develop working knowledge of FMRT's software architecture and infrastructure.
Learn deployment, recovery, and troubleshooting procedures.
Cross-train with the Full Stack Software Developer to build shared ownership of the platform.
Develop the ability to independently support routine production issues during planned and unplanned absences.
Contribute to reducing key-person risk through documentation and knowledge sharing.
Collaboration
Work closely with the Technical Product & Business Analyst to implement approved software enhancements.
Participate in backlog planning and development discussions.
Communicate project status, technical issues, and recommendations.
Collaborate with leadership and other departments when technical support is needed.
Continuous Improvement
Identify opportunities to improve application performance, maintainability, and user experience.
Recommend improvements to development standards and technical documentation.
Continuously expand technical knowledge and development skills.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This position is initially being engaged as a remote location, contract position with flexible scheduling based on project needs. Opportunity exists to transition into a full-time position.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field preferred; equivalent professional experience may be considered.
2–5 years of professional software development experience.
Experience developing web applications using an object-oriented programming language.
Experience working with relational databases and writing SQL queries.
Experience using Git or other version control systems.
Experience troubleshooting and debugging software applications.
Ability to read, understand, and modify existing application code.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new technologies and business processes.
