This individual executes logistics and acts as a connector between the Director, The Emancipator, HIAS staff and fellows, Howard University staff and faculty, and other internal and external partners. The ideal candidate will share a commitment to HIAS’s mission and will be exceptional in their attention to detail, ability to identify short- and long-term priorities, and adeptness at managing multiple tasks and deadlines at once. They will be an independent self-starter who also enjoys interacting with and contributing to a larger team. The Administrative Assistant reports directly to the Chief of Staff/Associate Director of Research.Supervisory AuthorityThis role has no direct supervisory authority, but the Administrative Assistant may be asked to serve as lead on projects related to helping promote HIAS's mission and goals.Nature And ScopeThis position interacts with faculty, staff, students, and internal and external partners.Principal AccountabilitiesMaintain the Founding Director’s scheduleSchedule meetings between internal and external partnersMake travel arrangements according to university protocolCorrespond with internal and external partners and contacts on behalf of the Director and HIAS in a professional and timely mannerAssist in event planning, including identification of and outreach to participants, hosts, and vendorsAssist the Chief of Staff/Associate Director of Research in budgetary matters (tracking, invoice and receipt collection, etc.)Provide research assistance and fact-checking as neededReceive training on proper university systems and protocols and comply with that trainingAttend and assist with day-of needs for public events (occasional travel may be necessary for this role)Minimum RequirementsBased in the Washington D.C. metro areaEducation: Bachelor's DegreeStrong attention to detail and accuracy in recordkeepingDemonstrated initiative to work self-directed yet with a collaborative styleStrong verbal and written communications skillsCompliance Salary Range DisclosureCompensation Range $26.44 - $28.85
