Payroll Analyst (U.S. & International) - Hybrid | Richmond, VAContract (W2) up to $40/hr | Potential extension and/or conversionOverviewWe're seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Analyst to support accurate, timely, and compliant processing of U.S. payroll and international payroll activities. This role plays a key part in payroll operations, including validating payroll inputs, maintaining internal controls, preparing reconciliations, resolving issues, and supporting audits. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical capability, deep payroll process knowledge, and the ability to collaborate across Finance, HR, Tax, Accounting, and external vendors.Key ResponsibilitiesCoordinate and process U.S. payroll and support international payroll cycles, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to policy and regulatory requirements.Maintain and update payroll process documentation to ensure standardized, repeatable, and compliant workflows across domestic and international operations.Execute payroll validations and reviews, identifying discrepancies, researching root causes, and driving timely resolution.Support internal controls including reconciliations, segregation of duties, and documentation requirements; participate in SOX and compliance testing as applicable.Prepare and submit funding for international payroll liabilities and support related GL activities (journal entries, reconciliations, and monthly close requirements).Assist with year-end processing, including W-2 distribution, year-end reconciliations, and international payroll reporting deliverables.Maintain accurate employee records and payroll data, ensuring adherence to audit and retention standards.Monitor and manage communication with third-party payroll vendors; respond to notifications, resolve discrepancies, and support compliance with tax authorities.Serve as a payroll subject matter resource to internal stakeholders, helping resolve employee inquiries and partner with HR, Benefits, Accounting, and external providers.Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at strengthening payroll accuracy, compliance, efficiency, and automation.Required QualificationsStrong experience processing or supporting U.S. payroll (international payroll experience a plus).Working knowledge of payroll regulations, tax principles, and compliance requirements.Experience with payroll reconciliations, issue research/resolution, and audit support.Familiarity with payroll systems (Workday, ADP, UKG, or similar) and intermediate Excel skills (VLOOKUP, pivot tables preferred).Proven ability to document processes, maintain internal controls, and work with sensitive and confidential employee data.Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to partner across departments and with third-party vendors.CPP or FPC certification preferred (not required).Work Location / ScheduleHybrid role in Richmond, VA (3 days/week)CompensationUp to 40/hr (W2 contract)Potential extension and/or conversion based on performance and business needs.
