JOB DESCRIPTIONTitleBus MonitorDepartmentTransportationReports ToTransportation SupervisorCompensationACP 203Days187Revised: 01/27/2022PRIMARY PURPOSE:Rides the school bus and helps the driver ensure the safe and orderly transportation of students with disabilities.May drive a district vehicle and/or ride a school bus helping the driver ensure the safe and orderly transportation of students with disabilities.QUALIFICATIONSEducation and Certification RequirementsHigh school graduate or GED equivalent preferredMust be 21 years of age or olderValid Texas Class "C" Driver's LicenseSafe driving record verified by the Texas Department of Public SafetyCertification as Texas Bus Driver Certification by the Texas Education Agency (requirement satisfied by successful completion of 20 hours Texas Department of Public Safety course)Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background checkKnowledge and SkillsAbility to follow verbal instructions and communicate effectivelyAbility to operate safety equipment and adaptive equipmentAbility to work well with children with disabilitiesPunctual and dependableMust be able to understand instructions and communicate in basic EnglishAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating maintenance instructions, and procedure manualsMust meet alcohol and controlled substance testing requirements set forth by the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1992Must pass annual medical examination per Department of Transportation (DOT) regulationsAbility to complete required bus driver safety trainingMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:(The following statements describe the general purpose and responsibilities assigned and should not be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, skills, efforts, or working conditions that may be assigned or skills that may be required.)Assist students on/off the bus as neededEscort children across the street to/from curbAssist with special needs students individually as neededSecure students in seats, wheelchairs, or other devices used for the safety of the studentsWork cooperatively with driver in maintaining safe conditions on the busMaintain good rapport with students, parents and guardiansMaintain discipline in-route. Notifies appropriate campus personnel of problem students or unusual happeningsKnow bus routes well enough to guide a substitute driverHelp driver keep bus cleanMay be required to work with wheelchairsWork irregular hours as neededMay be required to lift younger students into or out of car seatsSupervise use of seat belts, harnesses, or car seat seats by studentsFollow emergency procedures and help driver administer first aid, if necessaryOperate equipment according to established safety proceduresFollow established procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, assisting students, etc.Perform other duties as assigned, based on department needsMust complete designated district technology proficiencies each yearRequires a basic knowledge of technology/computer skillsAbility to use a personal computer to access district programs, emails, and other resourcesMaintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearanceEnsure compliance with the Texas Educator's Code of EthicsDaily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the jobSupervisory Responsibilities:N/AEquipment Used:* School bus, safety equipment (flares, reflective signs), fire extinguisher* Wheelchair lifts, ramps, locks, and special needs adaptive equipment.Mental Demands:* Ability to read, concentrate, communicate (verbally and written), interpret, reason, understand verbal instructions, memorize, coordinate, compile, compute* Work with frequent interruptions and maintain emotional control under stressPhysical Demands:* Frequent: Sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs and/or ramps, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive hand motions, hearing, speaking clearly, visual acuity, distinguishing colors, driving, traveling* Occasional: Lifting, moderate, 15-44 poundsEnvironmental Factors:Frequent exposure to temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise, low or intense illumination, vibrationOccasional exposure to biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.)Work outside, work around moving objects or vehicles, work on uneven surfacesWork alone, work prolonged or irregular hoursNondiscrimination Statement:The Judson School District considers applicants for all positions without regard to race, color, national origin, age, religion, sex, marital or veteran status, the presence of a medical condition, disability, or any other legally protected status.While all applications will be reviewed, not all applicants will be interviewed
