Substitute Bus Monitor 2025-2026

Pay rate is $15/hrReports to: Director of TransportationPosition ObjectiveTo assist in providing safe transportation of students.Essential FunctionsMaintains good student conduct while on the bus with driver's supportAssists students as they enter and exit the school bus for curb-to-curb service as neededKeeps written records of inappropriate student behavior and any other records as required by Dunlap Community #323 School District guidelinesResponsible for securing/un-securing wheelchairs while the driver operates the lift, using tie- downs, belts, safety restraints, and any other related supportive equipment needed for transporting studentsAssists the driver with the maintenance of a clean bus interior; wiping down the seats with disinfectant, inspecting and securing seatbelts and other safety equipment, putting up the windows, etc. while on dutyDemonstrates knowledge of assigned bus route for pickup and delivery of studentsPerforms other related duties/tasks as assignedAdditional FunctionsAttends department in-service meetings and all recertification classesReads and follows instructions; and understands written and oral instructionsSpecific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include safety practices and proceduresQualificationsHigh school diploma or GED preferredJob related experience is desiredAbility to learn special methods and procedures for working with special needs students, to include handling equipment that may be required in transporting special needs students (i.e. walkers, wheelchairs, oxygen equipment, etc.)Must be able to work in extreme temperaturesAbility to acquire CPR and 1st Aid certificationExperience working with children preferredAbility to maintain professional relationships with students, co-workers, administrative staff and parentsWorking ConditionsMental Demands: calculating, comparing, evaluation, interpreting, organizing, consulting, analyzing, planning, documenting, specifyingPhysical Demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and /or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 70% sitting, 15% walking, and 15% standing. Ability to operate wheelchair lifts, ramps, and securement locks. Continual sitting, reaching, and repetitive hand and arm motions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to talk and hear; stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. Frequent walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pushing and pulling. Moderate lifting and/or carrying up to 50 lbs or more. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus during the hours of daylight and darknessEnvironmental Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particle, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. Frequent interaction among unruly children. Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue. Occasional evening/weekend/summer work. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud
