New applicants will then create an internal profile by clicking Yes, I am an employee.Click on your initials in the top right corner, select Internal Job Settings, and verify your employee status to access internal job postings.Once logged in, click on "Job Listings" and apply for the position.SALARY: Teacher Salary ScheduleDEADLINE: Open until filledJOB DESCRIPTIONJOB TITLE: Bilingual School Counselor (Supporting Newcomer English Learners and Families)Plans, organizes, coordinates, and implements therapeutic and responsive services to effectively meet the social emotional needs of Newcomer EL students and families in the educational environment.REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent for Data, Intervention, and Student SupportEXAMPLE (S) of WORK PERFORMED:Assist in creation of EL ILP plans for students.Assist in the design and implementation of effective mentoring and counseling supports for ELs.Help immigrants and other EL students adjust and acclimate to school.Engage in and facilitate professional development.Assist parents of English learners with school involvement opportunities.Guides individuals and groups of students through the development of educational and career plans.Counsels small groups and individual students through the development of educational and career plans and by providing and participating in orientations programs for students and parents.Consults with teachers, staff, and parents regarding meeting the developmental needs of students by conducting faculty in-service programs and parent education programs.Remains readily available to students so as to provide counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity.Refers students and families to appropriate school and community resources such as school and/or community-based psychologists, school nurses, and administrators for educational and career assistance.Participates in, coordinates, and/or conducts activities which contribute to an effective school environment such as interpreting test results, and being a student advocate.Pursues professional growth through postgraduate education, attendance at local and state staff development programs and participation in professional organizations.Maintains and updates student records, and when appropriate, reviews with parents and teachers, maintaining confidentiality.Conducts parent learning sessions for newcomer familiesPerforms other related duties as assigned.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (*)(*) When a specific assignment has additional or different ESSENTIAL FUNCTION requirements, the differences will be discussed at the time of assignment.Professional staff assignment that requires daily attendance to meet student needs.Requires travel to work sites within a building.Interprets test results; reads published articles, documents, news releases, etc. for information to use and/or pass on to others.Prepares and maintains written reports; develops information for written reports and correspondence to officials inside and outside the district.Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work; discusses education programs with teachers, administrators, and/or citizens; reports testing information at meetings; conducts individual or group meetings; communicates with employees, citizens, suppliers, etc. via telephone.Reviews published educational materials for selection purposes; visually obtains information from computer monitor.Communicates to Spanish speaking students and families fluently in Spanish verbally and in written formatsPhysical Demands (Strength)- Exerts 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or- Exerts 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or- Exerts 10 to 20 pounds constantly, and/or- Exerts a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.NOTE: includes personal movement and sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:Vocational Preparation: (Experience)- Requires school counseling experience. (counseling Newcomer EL students preferred)- Bilingual (Spanish and English speaking) required- Knowledge of resources and services for immigrant familiesEducation Preparation: (Formal and Informal)Licensed Professional CounselorMissouri Counseling Certification
