Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA)

Responsibilities:Prepares and administers anesthetic agents to patients in order to desensitize them to permit the performance of medical or surgical procedures.Performs pre-anesthesia evaluation of the patient in order to ascertain physiological and psychological factors which influence the selection of anesthetic agent and the formulation of the plan of anesthetic management.Monitors the patient in the operating room in order to maintain the patient in a homeostatic condition and to assure that unnecessary injuries are not inflicted on the patient.Records anesthetic information on the anesthesia chart to provide a permanent record necessary for the care of the patient, to provide material for teaching, for study, and to establish a medical-legal record.Provides clinical supervision or guidance of nurse anesthesia students, paramedical, and medical students in order to contribute to their clinical training.Responds to emergency situations.Manages Human Resources activities of the department in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.Requirements & Qualifications:Certification as a Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA).Current New York Licensure as a Registered Nurse and APRN.Current American Association of Nurse Anesthetist (AANA) certification.BLS, ACLS, and/or other specialty certifications as required by the department.Minimum of 6 months of experience in anesthetizing pediatric patients is desirable.Competency in pediatric airway device placement and vascular access.Experience in critical and acute care areas, especially pediatric or neonatal.Familiarity with EKG, arterial, central venous, and pulmonary artery pressure monitoring.Skilled in respiratory management and blood gas analysis.
