Because at UKG, your work matters—and so do you.About The TeamThis Sr. Staff level role leads the technical strategy and execution for large-scale enterprise analytics applications built on modern web technologies. The applications transform complex benchmark datasets and workforce analytics into intuitive, high-performance user experiences for administrators and business leaders. As the most technically skilled front-end engineer on the team, this person drives architectural direction, mentors engineers, and ensures the applications are accessible, performant, and delightful to use. The role includes close collaboration with backend data platform teams, Data Science teams, and UX designers to translate analytical insights into actionable visual interfaces.About The RoleArchitecture & Technical Leadership:Architect and evolve modern, scalable front-end applications using React, TypeScript, Next.js, and enterprise component librariesLead architecture reviews for state management, data visualization strategies, performance optimization, and front-end infrastructureDefine and enforce front-end coding standards, design patterns, and technical best practices across multiple teamsDrive strategic decisions on UI frameworks, build systems, testing infrastructure, and developer toolingIntroduce new front-end technologies and frameworks to support long-term scalability, maintainability, and developer experienceApplication DevelopmentBuild high-performance, responsive web applications that visualize large-scale workforce benchmarks and analyticsDesign and implement sophisticated data visualization interfaces using libraries like D3.js, Recharts, or similar frameworksCreate scalable component architectures and design systems that support white-labeling and multi-tenant requirementsIntegrate with RESTful and GraphQL APIs, handling real-time data updates, optimistic UI patterns, and complex state managementImplement client-side data aggregation, filtering, and transformation to support interactive analytics experiencesData Privacy & SecurityEngineer privacy-first UI components that properly mask PII, enforce role-based access controls, and handle sensitive HCM dataImplement client-side data redaction, anonymization displays, and audit logging for compliance requirementsBuild secure authentication/authorization flows and session management patternsEnsure WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility compliance across all interfacesCollaboration & OperationalizationPartner with Data Science teams to visualize statistical models, quantitative insights, and AI-generated summariesCollaborate with backend engineers to define optimal API contracts, data shapes, and performance characteristicsWork with UX designers to translate wireframes and design systems into production-ready, pixel-perfect implementationsTranslate product requirements and analytical needs into technical designs and execution plansPerformance & QualityOptimize application performance including bundle sizes, lazy loading, code splitting, and runtime performanceImplement comprehensive testing strategies (unit, integration, E2E, visual regression, accessibility)Establish observability and monitoring for front-end errors, performance metrics, and user experience analyticsTroubleshoot complex issues involving browser compatibility, rendering performance, or API integration bottlenecksMentorship & LeadershipMentor front-end and full-stack engineers through design reviews, pair programming, and technical guidanceInfluence technical direction across multiple product teams and establish front-end best practices organization-wideLead by example with high-quality code contributions and architectural decision-makingAbout YouBasic Qualifications:8+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years in lead or staff-level Java or C# Development experience required Expert-level proficiency in modern JavaScript/TypeScript, React, and front-end build tooling (Vite, Webpack, etc.)Strong data visualization skills using D3.js, Recharts, or similar libraries to create interactive charts and dashboardsProduction experience with modern front-end architecture patterns including component design systems, micro-frontends, and mono repo structuresProven ability to optimize application performance (Core Web Vitals, bundle optimization, lazy loading strategies)Strong understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1), semantic HTML, and inclusive design principlesExperience designing security-conscious front-end applications with proper handling of authentication, authorization, and sensitive data displayLeverage AI coding agents such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or Cursor to accelerate front-end development, including generating production-ready components, refactoring existing codebases, debugging complex UI issues, and improving engineering throughput while maintaining code quality, security, and design system complianceAbility to break ambiguous product requirements into structured technical designs and actionable implementation plansDemonstrated ability to mentor engineers and influence technical direction across front-end and full-stack teamsStrong experience integrating with backend APIs, data pipelines, and real-time data sourcesPreferred QualificationsExperience architecting enterprise design systems and component libraries used across multiple productsExperience with advanced data visualization techniques for large datasets (virtual scrolling, canvas rendering, WebGL)Experience building real-time dashboards using WebSockets, Server-Sent Events, or similar streaming technologiesExperience with modern CSS architectures (CSS-in-JS, Tailwind CSS, CSS Modules) and responsive design patternsExperience implementing white-label/multi-tenant UI architectures with theme customizationExperience with Next.js, Remix, or similar meta-frameworks for server-side rendering and hybrid applicationsExperience working in regulated environments with strong data compliance, audit requirements, and privacy-preserving UI patternsExperience with micro-frontend architectures (Module Federation, single-spa, etc.) for large-scale applicationsExperience building AI-powered user interfaces, including chat interfaces, natural language interactions, or LLM-generated content displayExperience mentoring senior front-end engineers, design engineers, or full-stack engineersExperience defining front-end strategy across The actual base pay offered may vary depending on skills, experience, job-related knowledge and work location. In addition to base pay, employees may be eligible to participate in a performance-based bonus plan and to receive restricted stock unit awards as part of total compensation.
