Family and Community Services Instructional Specialist

General Definition of WorkThe family and community services instructional specialist, under moderate supervision, performs instructional programs support work with limited decision-making discretion planning, developing, and implementing family and communication engagement programs. Position collaborates with the Learning & Teaching division to identify appropriate instructional programs/materials that are aligned to the standards. Employee performs both school-based and district-level work to carry out Board of Education policies under the direction of the Director of Family Engagement and Community Outreach.QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.Essential FunctionsAdhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and proceduresDevelop and implement family involvement programs according to established guidelinesDesign, initiate, implement, and evaluate the district family/school outreach program that values both traditional and non-traditional service delivery patternsMonitor family involvement initiatives and assess effectivenessRecommend, develop, and implement program improvementsProvide support and guidance to principals and school staff for the development and implementation of family resource centersDesign and promote programming and services within family resource centers that are designed to enhance children's ability to attain academic and social successCoordinate school-based and community-based initiatives that enhance the ability of families to function as nurturing and effective family unitsWork with multi-disciplinary teams to promote a system approach to family involvementCollaborate with Federal Programs on Title I initiatives that build family/school partnershipsCompile program data to report on effectiveness of Title I initiatives, and ensure the district is making fiscally responsible decisionsIdentify funding sources and community resources to enhance and promote family involvementDeliver support services to schools, programs, and other departments regarding family and community involvementSupport Family and Community Specialists by sharing educator expertiseServe as a subject matter expert for principals and school staff regarding the development and implementation of family resource centersDesign and promote programming and services within family resource centers that are designed to enhance children's ability to attain academic and social successPlan and implement sustained, ongoing professional development for school staffDeliver support services to schools, programs, and other departments regarding family and community involvementCreate an inclusive environment with positive communicationPerform related work as assigned or requiredKnowledge, Skills, AbilitiesComprehensive knowledge of the principles, standards, and expectations of curriculum in assigned areaComprehensive knowledge of staff development practices, procedures, and techniquesComprehensive knowledge on how to utilize appropriate data and information to make instructional decisions for studentsDemonstrated knowledge and understanding of various learning styles, curriculum development and program evaluation, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis, and research related to learningSkilled in communication, both verbal and writtenSkilled in computers and software including Microsoft Office and Google WorkspaceAbility to learn and use specialized tools, equipment or software related to business needsAbility to implement local, state, and federal rules, guidelines, and procedures into daily business operationsAbility to reason, make judgments, and maintain effective working relationshipsAbility to employ positive communication skills in all settings/mediumsAbility to problem-solve utilizing sound judgmentAbility to maintain confidentiality regarding school system businessAbility to take initiative, work independently, and exercise sound judgementAbility to develop related charts, graphs, reports, and records pertaining to school planning and strategyAbility to conceptualize, initiate, monitor, and evaluate new and/or current programsDemonstrated ability to work effectively in a deadline-driven, rapidly changing team environmentEducation And ExperienceBachelor's degree requiredValid NC Teaching license requiredMinimum of five (5) years' experience as successful content area teacher requiredEquivalent combination of education and experience
