Job Summary
Chartwells Higher Education is seeking an accomplished General Manager to lead dining operations at Monroe University. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact on campus life while managing a high‑visibility account in a fast‑paced, service‑driven environment.
What You’ll Do
Lead, mentor, and develop a high‑performing management and hourly team, promoting professional growth and succession planning
Manage the account in accordance with approved budgets while meeting or exceeding client expectations
Build and maintain outstanding relationships with employees, guests, clients, and campus partners
Ensure full compliance with Chartwells’ policies, procedures, and local, state, and federal regulations
Oversee all financial aspects of the operation, including: P&L accountability and financial reportingSales, flash, and trend analysisBudget development, forecasting, and cost controlsCash handling and reconciliation of multiple cash banks
Maintain food cost controls while upholding exceptional quality and service standards
Plan menus collaboratively with culinary leadership, supporting innovation and student engagement
Manage purchasing systems and inventory controls
Ensure strict adherence to HACCP standards, food safety protocols, and proper food storage and usage
Monitor and enforce health, safety, and fire regulations related to food service and facilities
Actively participate in employee meetings, reviews, performance coaching, and training programs
Champion strong interdepartmental collaboration and integrate dining operations into the broader campus operational plan
Lead catering operations with a focus on service excellence and client satisfaction
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent professional experience
8–10 years of upscale food service experience, including at least 6 years in a management role
Demonstrated success in personnel management, including hiring, training, evaluation, and development
Proven ability to meet strategic and financial goals while maintaining compliance with company and client standards
Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, food cost management, and inventory control
Exceptional leadership, organizational, and communication skills
Ability to prioritize, multitask, and remain focused in a dynamic environment
Effective problem‑solving and conflict‑resolution skills
Strong catering experience (required)
Knowledge of HACCP controls and food safety best practices
Experience monitoring compliance with health and fire regulations
Polished business etiquette with outstanding client‑relation skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
ServSafe or Department of Health certification preferred
